Oh boy..... found a good one tonight! On a recommendation from a favorite on-line retailer, I bought a bottle from a "soft" vintage that I'd normally not seek. I just emailed her back asking to find some more because it was stellar. It was a 2000 Comte de Vogue Chambolle Musigny, and it was very nice. Well resolved, but not yet totally tannin free, and what little was left was a fine powder. Remember Frank's Black Cherry Wishniak soda? Well, imagine a decarbonated unsweetened version and that would give you an idea of the dark fruit flavor in this Premier Cru with a pinch of cinnamon added. The wife gave it a thumbs up too and suggested I buy more.

Popped the cork on a 2007 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir a couple days ago. Needed a day in the decanter and then a day back in the bottle to lose the ample herbal / green element enough to be palatable.

Wine club dinner tomorrow! '83 Hensel Riesling Beerenauslese and an '01 Arrowood Monte Rosso Cab. Mmmmmm, yummy!

Hopefully I'm not committing any cardinal sins drinking a G&T out of a Guinness cup...

Barolo drinking well and it's not 3 decades old? I won't believe it until I try it for myself!

I would tell my customers that I never had a good bottle of hot peppers in oil or good homemade dried sausage. It worked every time.

However I stick to the old rule of thumb: Never open a Barolo that's less than 10 years old.

You're drinking Italian wine WAY younger than we do! We're just getting to the 2000 Chianti Riservas now. I buried the 2004, 2007, and 2010 Super Tuscans on the bottom of the back rack and won't even look at them for at least 5 more years. Probably 15 for the 2010 because it's such a monster year.

One of these days we're gonna have to have a forum-wide get together for W's - watches, wine, and whiskey. EVERYONE gets a hotel room and we have it in one of that same hotel's meeting room. While we don't mind PWI, we certainly don't want any DWI.

I guess I'm kinda' new to Italian wines😉 I was first introduced to a 1982 Gaja Barbaresco in 1988. These made me quit Cabs and Bordeaux. It's my understanding that the 2010 vintage is as good as it gets. In fact I believe it to be the best in Barolo since 2000. I was taught that Brunellos have a short life, maybe 5-7 years tops. Then Barbaresco, 7-10, with only some of the single vineyards continuing to improve with age. Barolos and Super Tuscans, much like Bordeaux, need at least 10 years, The better the producer, the longer they need to sit. But at least 10 years for all.

"On the Way to Going Broke" I discovered I need to find something other than GAJA. Across the board I have found Antinori to produce the highest quality in almost every price range. Right now I'm enjoying some of their 2006 Guado Al Tasso and it's terrific.

As luck would have it I'll be going out with a few friends for dinner this Friday. There are 4 of us that get together ever quarter. One of us picks up the tab while the other bring a bottle of wine. The dinner tab is always around a "nickle" but the costs of the wines is more than that. We always go to restaurants that have corkage. That's something you may consider for a Forum Get-Together. At any rate I have a Roberto Voerzio 2006 Brunate that I'll be bringing. I'll bet it will be terrific.

Gaja is 🥰. Had a '97 Sperss recently that was insanely good.

..... and yes, 2010 was a phenomenal vintage in Italy, and nearly everywhere else in the world.

Too funny as I have one in the cellar. I'm sure you're aware that this is Angelo's Barolo that you drank early 🤦
