Opened a 2002 Faiveley Corton Clos de Cortons to see where it's at in it's evolution. Decided the rest need some patience...... like a decade's worth. Got a 2009 Huet Le Mont first selection vouvray opened in the fridge for the same "research". It's not anywhere near peak but still fun to drink. Not sure what I'm gonna open over the next few days. Further details as events warrant.
I had a somm friend tell me once that he was at a portfolio show and got a bit "lit" from the Salon. According to him, it is a different kind of intoxicated, like he was "soft and floaty". I propose a GTG with the participation fee being a bottle so we can all find out.
Who said you can't eat whilst drinking Port Over droge worst , aged peppercorn salami Well aged Dutch Gouda Sun dried tomatoes Dark rye 9 grain bread
This stuff is amazing (I had to have a sip when I got home)...I just got a bottle at Costco and bought it on a whim. It was about $11 cheaper than at Binny's (Chicago's biggest liquor store chain).
Continuing the search for younger Burgundy to stash away. Sadly, Jadot just isn't cutting it for me anymore. Their level of acidity is just too high for my palate. Tried about a half dozen different bottles from '08 to '12 over the last month+, even from a favorite vineyard / appellation (Chapelle-Chambertin), and none of them made the grade. That's okay though, because a couple of trusted sources tell me Faiveley is becoming more drinkable young yet still has enough structure to age. I'm no stranger to Faiveley! Nice to have an excuse to pick a mixed lot up. There is one producer that shows promise for us. Even Windy said it wasn't bad, and she can only tolerate completely resolved Burgundy. Alain Burguet's 2005 Gevrey Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes is good now, but still needs another few years. Might have to grab a small quantity to stash in the cellar. Once the tannins and acidity fade, it should be really easy to drink. There's a bottle of 2006 JJ Prüm Graacher Himmelreich in the fridge too. Don't know how that got opened.
Rock Town Distillery 5th Anniversary Bourbon on ice. Their regular bourbon has won several awards but the 5th Anniversary in my opinion is far better. Local here to Little Rock using local grain and locally made barrels.
Wine,s done time for real drinks The Larks single cask was smooth as silk and on the Ardbeg now...( after clearing years of dust off the bottle)
Remember that dog Snuffles who hammed it up and floated in the air then drifted down to Earth like a falling feather when he got a treat? Well, that's me tonight with my bottle of 2003 Arrowood Monte Rosso, chunk of Cabot bandage wrapped cheddar, and Mt. Vikos onion & fig jam.
