A recap of the last few bottles drained.......

Went through a bottle of 2003 and 2001 Arrowood Monte Rosse Cabernet plus a bottle of 2002 Huet Clos du Bourg Vouvray at our Wine Club. The 2003 is a little more tame now as it wasn't as big a vintage as 2001, but both were very nice. 2002 is a favorite vintage for the Loire and Mosel at our house. The only other wine of the dozen and a half choices that we liked was a 2006 Cab that I can't recall the name of so it must not have been that memorable, eh?

Midway through a bottle of 2007 Taylor Fladgate LBV Port. As mentioned before, if 1985 Graham's is my heroin, 2007 Taylor Fladgate is my methadone.

Had a fantastic bottle of 1995 Ambroise Corton le Rognet Grand Cru last night with rack of lamb. This is about as close to heaven as you can get if you're a carnivorous Burgundy lover. I can only think of a handful of bottles I'd rather drink, and ALL of them are 3 times the price minimum.

Windy has a bottle of 2011 JJ Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett Riesling open. I have been known to sneak a glass of that on occasion. A bottle of 2003 JJ Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Auslese has been beckoning me to pop the cork so I might oblige tomorrow.

US$7 a bottle but still a nice drop.

If you can only stretch to US$2 or so, this stuff lifts your wig.

In all seriousness the best whiskey for the money I have tasted is Jamiesons. And that is from a Jock.

My initial thoughts a few months ago was that it was a notch below the Graham's 10yr. I think my initial impression was formed because the alcohol is more up front than the Graham's. A few bottles and I've come to appreciate the more forward alcohol taste and enjoy both equally.

The alcohol heat is distracting in some bottles. I prefer it to be more subtle too, but can overlook it with the right pairing or good fruit flavor.

My latest stash arrived a few weeks ago. Making them rest before I start opening some of them:

Are there any Bordeaux fans here? 😀
