So today was the big day, picked up the first watch I ever gave to a watchmaker 😁 since I wore it just for one or two days before giving it the much deserved service it sure feels like a new watch 🥰

Thank you @wagudc 😀 the watch is amazing, especially the dial 🥰
My watchmaker also seemed to like the watch a lot 😁

What’s funny is everyone seems to poo-poo these 70’s Omega movements as “inferior” to the earlier ones, but my watchmaker commented on how wonderful the movement was in my (ex) Connie of the same era when he serviced it.

My Audi A6 just returned from the auto spa. Two valve cover gaskets replaced, one vacuum pump replaced, wheel balancing, and oil change. $1,369.00. Ouch!!🙁
I thought you said “two valves” and I was thinking, oh that’s not bad then I reread and saw the valve cover gaskets which are probably a 20 cent to manufacture item and felt ur pain.

I don't think people generally "poo-poo" the 550, 560, and 750 series movements. You might be thinking of the 1000 and 1010/1020 series.

Back from a long stay at the Spa.

That is absolutely gorgeous. Pure understated elegance.

What is the reference number & bracelet as well? I pine...

Thanks for the kind words of admiration. It is a no-lume 14710 with the original bracelet (1036 I believe). This reference was made 1960-1962, but looks similar to the later 166.010 which has a date complication. It think the combination of no date and no lume makes for a very clean look.

Just got this back and I’m super excited. Took 5 months too the day to CLA both the camera and the lens, which is faster than I expected. Got a pile of film ready to be run through it.

Now… just waiting to get my Speedy back from Kelly Hunter

Looks good. I had a watch case restored by Art of the Watch two years ago. The work was well done, but I was a little put off that my watch was essentially tossed into a cardboard box without any padding when it was shipped back to me.

Thank you and agreed! He is my go to guy and has serviced my '89 Datejust as well and it is flawless. Outside of watches, I have really enjoyed talking to him about cameras, hotels, cooking, and so much more haha. Random, but we have had great phone calls.

I honestly was a little surprised by this as well and was put off like you, but felt it was packaged enough for me to feel okay. It would have been awesome to see more packaging the watch was in a bubble mailer folded and put into a small UPS box (with some foam padding to keep the mailer in place) that was put into a large UPS box. But I agree, I would like to see more packaging.

That has not been my experience. Always lots of padding and multiple boxes. That would be a big no no for me. Perhaps he had someone working for him that screwed up.

If I recall correctly, my watch was in a plastic mailer that had been folded in half and then put in a larger cardboard box. The mailer took up at most 50% of the box and was free to slide around. Also, the watch was on a steel bracelet and nothing had been placed between the case back and bracelet. The watch was in good working order when I got it back, but I mean come on, how hard would it be to put a few pieces of newspaper or something in the box to stop the watch from sliding around?

I'm glad your experience was better, but I will not be sending any more watches their way.

This 60+ year-old beauty came out of the spa yesterday, the first time I'd had it serviced in six years of ownership. Should be good for another 60 years (with occasional service, of course).

...and this one went into a local watchmaker yesterday -- I'd been meaning to get it serviced anyway and then snapped the mainspring last week.

...and these two went off to Omega yesterday, each suffering identical (and almost simultaneous) failures of the hour hand/date wheel mechanism. The watches run normally but the hour-jump feature is gone and the hour hand stops turning at 9pm (and the date never advances). It would be interesting to know if @Archer had any knowledge of, or experience with this mode of failure for the a-magnetic Calibre 8500s.

A bunch of great watches you have there. The vintage are my favorite. Is the Cyma sold gold or plate? Either way, it is quite nice.

Thanks, yes they're some of my favourites. The Cyma is unusual indeed -- 38mm dating from the late 1940s/early 50s (making it a jumbo) and 18k solid gold; I asked the watchmaker yesterday to weigh out all the gold parts while it's being serviced so that if I decide to sell it sometime I don't sell it for less than the metal value.
