Talking about US Navy Commander astronaut/aquanaut Scott Carpenter
In fact, Scott Carpenter was a real wrist watch aficionado as time-period photographs show he has worn at least 5 different brands:
Besides the small rectangular "dress watch" worn on a steel mesh JB Champion shown in his 1964 official NASA portrait:
Bulova Accutron Astronaut during his early "Mercury 7" days at NASA
Breitling Navitimer with 24 hours dial as requested at Breitling for his actual flight, "Aurora 7" in May 1962.
Rolex Submariner and Sea-Dweller used during aquanaut experiments onboard US Navy SeaLab underwater habitats.
Gold Omega Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster during his later "farming" life.
In 1979, Omega also offered him a 14K Gold Quartz chronometer serial 40 756 882 which can be spotted in his "businessman" portrait.

Maybe an early Bulova?

Similar, but not the same:

I revive this thread because on december 3rd 2024 the Swiss auction house Koller will sell a Speedmaster Pro that according to their description belonged to Gennady Padalka. With the watch comes a signed Space glove. The estimate is CHF 120'000 to 180'000 (USD 135'000 to 200'000)
The serial (N77803465) is different from the one sold in the RR auctions a few years ago.
Do astronauts get a new official watch every now and then or is there another reason for him having had another space going watch?

Russia is a little more forgiving than NASA about cosmonauts taking personal items into space. My educated guess is that one or both watches were privately purchased.

They are very cool. I was able to obtain an unflown set a few years ago. They were custom milled by Roscosmos to accommodate the elastic strap worn during EVAs. They are no longer used.

Lesser known cosmonaut watches are sold between collectors outside auctions quite often. The cosmonauts sell them mostly to supplement their meager salaries and pensions.

I bought one but eventually sold it.

(Still have the document signed for my daughter on the ISS, or actually she does.)

I remember that one when it went to auction. It is a beast of a watch. I think you could only pull off wearing it in zero-G.馃榾
