I have a chance to purchase my grail at a great price.
It's the Speedmaster MK II racing dial.
The one thing I'm concerned about is that it's a 2014 model.
It appears to be as it came from Omega with all plastic wrapping still intact.
I'm concerned that after sitting not running for over 3 years, the oils have congealed and are no longer serviceable.
It could need an overhaul right off the bat.
What are your feelings on this?
    Should I be worried?
Or do modern oils last without being used?
    Thanks,
    Lenny

Omega recommends that watches be serviced in 3-5 year intervals. And that's for watches being worn. A 2014 watch unworn is close to new in terms of needing service. This one should be fine for almost the full 5 years from when you strap it on. Storing it in the box still wrapped in factory plastic will have preserved the lubricant well. Should be good to go.

I don't think 3 years is anything to worry about. Of course it could need a service (there's always that possibility with mechanical watches), but odds are it's completely fine. If the price is right, go for it!

This is slightly misleading -- oils will dry up regardless of how a watch is used. Just because a watch sits in a box for a few years doesn't mean the movement is in stasis.

You'll be fine. however, i would wait about a week or so of daily wear before testing it's accuracy since the oils have been sitting for a while.

Pull the trigger, wear the darn thing and stop worrying so much! It will eventually need service, but that's way down the road.

    Thanks guys.
I am cautious by nature and really don't have a lot of $ for watches.
This will only be my 2nd really nice watch so I'm trying to be prudent.

Factor in potential service costs and see if you can get it at a lower price?
I'm assuming it's not under warranty, but if it is, I think it is covered till next year.
(edit: Nevermind. I thought it was a 9300. And also forgot that warranties start when it is sold.)

Sounds like you're gun shy... Go for it! The watch will be fine.

Instead of a personal attack, why not instead outline what issue he has written about that you disagree with?

Pull the trigger. It MAY need a service but I doubt it will be an issue. Take it to a nice watchmaker who can open the caseback if you wish and take a quick look, but just wearing for a week or two I think you may get a good sense of it.

If it is your "Grail" at a really great price, what are you waiting for? All watches need to be serviced eventually.

3 years is fine, I'd go for it if you like the watch, the Calibre 3330 is a solid 7750 derived movement that will be very accurate and reliable if you maintain it over your years of ownership and the bracelet on these is especially good and comfortable.

BTW I edited the title to add more specifics about the watch.
