So true. I am a buyer at 42mm. I’ve noticed a lot of the ceramic cased watches are +42mm? Perhaps it’s the ceramic that requires larger case sizes.
I doubt it. The larger sizes distinguish themselves from the original Speedmaster, making it smaller would compromise that market.
Well, it's not like anyone saw the 321 caliber coming! (Maybe some did) The point is omega does whatever it wants to do. The Apollo 8 one was based off 1861 and yet still not sized down, so it's not even because of the cal 9300 I think. So, probably they have other reasons why they want to keep it larger... maybe it has to do with the manufacture process?
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think they need to. I have small wrists (don’t know exact size, but I am 5’ 11.5”, 160 lbs) and think it’s perfect on me. It really does wear significantly smaller than its size. When I bought mine, I also tried on the steel version of the 9300, which is exactly the same case diameter. It looked a LOT bigger on the wrist than the DSOTM, to the point that my wife just refused to believe that it was the same size as the DSOTM. It’s true what they say, black really is slimming. Given how massively successful the ceramic Speedmasters have been, I’m not sure Omega are in any rush to make any big changes. Now just watch, since I wrote that, a smaller DSOTM will be announced at their March retailer show!
I'm my experience Omega doesnt release exaclty what the customers want otherwise we'd have a white faced speedy pro, non LE
I can see it happening in the short term. They already offer a 39.5mm PO deep black and as I understand Omega have a fairly large production area for ceramic cases so it may well happen.
If the Seamaster Pro Ceramic is any indication, not likely. I’m not quite sure why; perhaps Omega believes the significantly higher price requires a larger, more noticeable case. Or, as others have noted, the black case looks smaller on the wrist.
