Hi!

Would like to get some information on my Omega pocketwatch, especially the approximate time of manufacture, fake/real ...

I found this watch around 20yrs ago on a motorbike travel through rural India.
It was in a small, old and very dusty shop with used items. The watch was non running, broken, dusty ...
They had two watches, this pocketwatch and another Omega wristwatch with wire lugs with a diameter for the watch belt of about 8mm (?!). Both in a very sad state, no or broken glas, parts missing, non running. Owner told me they are
“very old”, colonial time, British-India (so before 1947). His Grandfather traded them from somebody (Indian person) who got them when the British left India...
(Don’t know if that story is true.)
I liked them so I bought them both!
Back, home in Europe, I took the two watches to a friend who is a watchmaker. He said they are almost beyond, but as a friend...
He repaired the calibers, I got the cases restored, removed the scratches, dents and bents, got them polished and, as I am allergic to nickel, got them Rhodium plated. Chainring and crown I kept without plating, as accent!
My watchmaker friend offered me a new old stock enamel face, though in a different style, but I wanted to keep the face original!
Hands are not the original ones, as they were missing, my watchmaker chose them.
There was also a dustcover back (bronze color) , but as the watchback was very difficult to close with it installed, so I decided to keep it separate.
As a „labour of love“, it took one and a half years to get the watch back to life.
My friend made me a very fair price!

Looking forward to get some information about this pocketwatch.
Time of production, ...
Any opinion welcome!

I know, it is not the clean, NOS, perfectly original,
but I think this watch had an interesting „life“ !
I love it!

Thank You very much for Your help!

P.S. Sorry pictures are just taken by a smartphone. Sadly I’ve no pictures of the watch before restoring!

P.S.2
about the wristwatch, please have a look below!

Thanks a lot, Your opinions are very much appreciated !

Your case number dates to between 1925 and 1930, so maybe 1927? It looks like a caliber 19L (the famous "Omega"), could you measure the diameter in millimetres?

The serial number of the movement will be on the main plate under the dial and that should give a better indication of date.

The new hands are a good match, if a bit long.

It's good to see an old junker have a new life.

Thanks a lot!
Very interesting!
About the pocket watch;
The movement has no Omega Mark, at least what I can see!
But I also don’t remember what parts were exactly missing, or broken, so my friend changed it!
——————————————
Below is the second watch, what I bought with the pocket watch together.
My watchmaker also did it, I restored the case, changed the wire lugs to a more modern size (the wire lugs I kept) Rhodium plated the case.
When my brothers son was born, I gave it to my brother.

It has 4 grooves on the bezel, hands were missing, so they were added by my friend.

Would also like to hear some opinions about this one ...
1920s ?!

sadly no pictures about the movement!
Face also kept original, as I bought it!

thank You very much in advance

Hi again,

diameter of the body, horizontal,
is about 48mm

Vertical inclusive the crown about 62mm.

Hands are lovely and simple, I think not too much baroque!

Thank You very much for Your help!

OK, no probs.
Possibly a version of the caliber 17L, but there are some variations and to pin it down to a specific reference you would need a shot of the plate under the dial showing the winding/setting configuration.

Like this example.

Ok!
Thank You a lot! Really appreciate it!

To remove the face, clearly speaking, I am not a watchmaker.
So, it would have to wait!
I am living in Japan, currently,
my trusted watchmaker (-friend) lives in Europe....

Hope we can travel this year!

Again, thank You very much!!!

hello!

Thank You, JiminOz!

Searching all day around the internet about my pocketwatch, could it be that the case and the movement are not fitting?
From side it looks like the movement is standing out too much, so the 2 wheels left marks on the caseback from winding!
It would also explain why the dustcover-caseback is not fitting in!
Wondered always the screw missing to fix the movement at th case-rim, but it would stand up!
The watches I found on the net had the movement in line with the case-rim!

The watches I find online, with this kind of movement, no Omega writing on the plate, just the Omega sign on the balance wheel (?) plate (sorry don’t know the correct name), are decribed as earlier year production, but the case No. says, what You mentioned above,1923 ~ 1927, with the number exactly in between, so around 1925!

I might be wrong!
Thank You a lot for helping me! It is really appreciated!

Thank You very much!
