I forgot that watch ownership was a competition of who knows more or who can make a newbie look like a dick. I thought that we were here to help each other and share in a passion for nice watches. I apologise

Eh, no sarcasm on the internet? Recommending a store bought watch to a newbie, on an enthusiast forum, priding itself on knowledge sounds sarcastic. Sorry I read it wrong

I think you have @Dan S completely wrong here. If you stick around, you will see that @Dan S regularly replies to the "newbie in need of help threads." My memory is far from perfect, but I don't recall him ever being anything but polite. To be honest, I am surprised at how much energy he puts into helping new people out. I can assure you that there was not an ounce of sarcasm in his response. You made the case for why buying from a reputable dealer was good for some people, and he agreed with you. Yes, many of us enjoy a prolonged hunt and researching every little tiny detail, but we also understand not everyone is the same. There is very little snobbery on this forum, and certainly not from Dan.
