The Daewoo Matiz, the motor of ours died with less than 20'000km, while entering the highway. The result was a big collision and a crash. Luckily no one died or got too seriously Injured.

This was terrible. My dad got it for me used and over 6 months old!!!! How embarrassing to be seen in this.

In all seriousness it was a 2001 Chevy Blazer. I bought it in 2004 with 30K miles for $8,800 USD. I owned it for 10 years and I put over $10k into it for repairs.

- Wheel bearings wouldn't last more than 20K miles.
- Even though the car had 6 cup holders in the front, none were usable. It was a stick shift, and to shift into 2nd, 4th or R you had to move the cups out of the cup holders directly out of the shifter.
- The back wiper literally only cleared out the space in front of the spare tire mounted on the back, so in a storm the only thing I could see out of the back was that the tire was still attached.

As poorly reliable it was, I do miss it (it was great to drive a 4x4 stick shift 4.3 Vortec)

Bought a Tiguan new and the thing constantly stalled out. It cost me a lot of time going to the dealership cause nothing would show up on the computer and they said the only way to read the code was to bring it straight to the dealer after it stalls without turning off the engine. This wasnt always ideal but I managed to do it on 3 occasions and they still were never able to figure it out. They just kept replacing parts which meant more time hanging out in the dealership waiting room. After about a year and a half I called it quits and went back to Subaru. A friend with a Audi had similar issues and I refuse to ever purchase either Brand again.

This will be a tie of the two worst cars I've driven/ owned.

1991 Pontiac Grand Prix. In high school, my dad made me trade in my crazy reliable 1984 Camaro. Yes I know how was it reliable? I have no answer but that thing never had an issue with it for 2 years I had it in high school. I graduated in 1998, so that thing was old for its time. But, my senior year I started to drive it 3 hours away to see my girlfriend. She moved after Christmas my senior year. So my dad made me sell it and buy a Mercury Cougar for the long distance drives because he said it was safer and more reliable. I hated that Cougar, but if it meant I could see my girlfriend, then so be it. After graduating a few months later, I went out and bought a car that "I" wanted to buy. Even though I loved my Camaro, my dad still influenced that purchase. This time, I was 18 and graduated high school so I made my own decision on what I wanted to drive. Huge mistake. I loved the Grand Prix's and how sporty they looked. The GM LQ1 was a cool little motor during it's time. But that thing didn't survive that summer. It ate two timing belts in 3 months. Left me stranded so many times. Huge mistake and huge pile of shit.

Fast forward to 2002, I moved back home after school and I needed a car for work. For some odd reason at the age of 22, I wanted a sporty version of the 4 door 1998 Chevy Lumina. Sure enough, they had the LTZ package. Sporty wheels and leather and 4 doors. Everything I wanted in my price range. It was red with tinted windows and I was all set. Unfortunately I did not do enough investigative work when I bought it and CarFax wasn't around at the time. Or at least I don't remember it being available. I started to fight electrical gremlins. It would randomly die everywhere. I'm sure some are more reliable now, but I still haven't bought another GM since then.

These aren't actual photos of mine, but they looked identical. By far the two worst cars I've ever owned.

Worst vehicle we ever owned was a 1976 Plymouth Volare we bought in early marriage. Was under-powered with its slant-6 cylinder engine, but was pretty economical, handled pretty well, and had cold air. The Volare was endurable because we also had a giant '69 Chrysler 300 convertible with 375 horsepower 440 V8 and all the creature comforts.
I had a '77 Plymouth Volare. It was, without a doubt, the biggest piece of crap made. There was never a time when there wasn't something wrong with it. The best day owning it was when I was stopped at a light, got rear-ended and the car was totaled.

The second worst was a Peugeot 504 diesel.

Did you have the auto stop/start feature turned on?

I have only ever owned 2 cars in my life both were a nightmare and both have put me off owning a car ever again.

The first was a ford escort, terrible to drive because it did not have power steering but was reliable, I have to give it that and the second was a Nissan x trail, I had when I lived in Malawi.

I paid around 3500 usd for it and spent around 2500 keeping it on the road. I only had for 18 months and it kept me awake at night for most of that time. Hopefully I will never need to own a car again. They just seem to suck all the joy of living out of me.

My now wife (then GF) had a 1979 Ford T-bird...it was a pile of junk that I spent far too much time maintaining...it was car her father bought her when she first came over to Canada from Australia, and he overpaid for it by a lot. That one neither she or I owned in reality, and when we were married her parents moved back to Australia and the car ended up being sold off by her father.

The worst one we have owned between us was the replacement for that car for her - 1987 Pontiac Grand Am we bought when it was 2 years old. Rust issues like crazy, but at least the motor and transmission (4 speed manual) was good. Drove it until the late 90's, and the last drive was to the wrecking yard where I think we got $100 for it. The clutch was sooo worn out by that time it would barely propel the car. It was our very last North American branded vehicle...

Worst car I owned was my first, a 1972 XA model Ford Falcon (Australia), like this but not the V8 version. It didn't handle too bad in a straight line but if you needed to go round a bend at any reasonable speed it bobbled like a bowl of jelly, and it guzzled petrol and excelled at rusting. This was the colour ...🤦

2002 Viggen. Maybe not the worst car I ever owned but certainly the least dependable one. I got to know (and subsidize) the local Swedish grease monkeys way better than I wanted to. A torque-steering electrical disaster with an intermittently failing ragtop mechanism that got stuck halfway up on my first date with a lovely woman who, nevertheless, decided to marry me anyway.
This reminds me I had a '92 Saab 9000CS and when I told girls it had heated seats and switched theirs on they just loved it. This was in Sydney AU so heated seats weren't really a thing.

1984 Fiat Panda 4x4 in gloss green
Hated this car. Nearly killed me. It had a front opening bonnet with inferior catches, and anything over 50 mph was likely to cause the bonnet to fly open and crack the windscreen, not to mention loss of visibilty - this happened to me on two occasions. Always had to carry a spare clutch cable as they were prone to fraying and snapping. Also had to carry a toolkit to open the points on wet days, as the damp played havoc with the igntion. C.V boots never lasted between MOT’s, and the panels used to corrode like a rusty carrot. In spite of all this, the engines were bullet proof and I drove thousands of miles in it, with many happy memories. It was also my first car, so I have to say I loved it as much as a I hated it

The single worst car I've ever owned was a 1988 Isuzu Impulse Turbo, I bought it used in 1992. The car had electrical problems and motor problems (blown head gasket, cracked head). The worst part was when I got in an accident and the dealer had the car for 4 months because parts weren't available. I owned the car for 2 years, I'd estimate that it was in the shop for 35% of my ownership.

Based on the painful stories from friends and relatives, I would never ever buy a VW or Audi.

A friend's wife had a similar experience with her Tiguan.

If you made it this far an enjoyed my tale, maybe someday I’ll tell everyone about the time I had to help my father in law and his brother break into the bed and breakfast where I was getting married the next day because they went to Denny’s to get steaks at 2 am.[/QUOTE]

would love to hear this story as well

VW - it's an event when the check engine light actually goes out! 😉

Meet my ex-college hooptie, a Chevy Vega wagon and if memory serves me well, it was a 1976-year model. It was the only thing I could afford during my college years... owned during my junior/senior years and it left me stranded multiple times until it finally died the week I graduated! talk about good timing! And as my college mates used to say, if that car could only talk! oh boy! 😲

ahhh those fun college days.. 😀 things got better over the years...

I've had just one of each. Both bought new and boringly reliable -- and slow thanks to the early days of emission technology for cars in the USA. German made of course , not PA 😗
