I know it's not an Omega, but I would hazard a guess that rule 1 of re-dialing is, "Before starting, check how to spell the maker's name":

Yep, £900 for a re-dialed, mis-spelled watch "The dial is nice with a little paint touched up in three places..." Oh my God. Glad the 'plexi is original,' though. Good to know, 'cause I was worried about that.

At least they are honest enough to point out that the dial has been re-painted and bring the faults to the buyer's attention.
True. The honesty is appreciated, but the hack job is not.

The seller is careful not to mention the Tachy dial on This one 😲

On a similar note: here's a Fortis Skylark that the vendor thinks is a Shylark. At least he didn't think it was a Shylock...

A question for the Respectable Members gathered here: with such a thing, would it then be considered acceptable by the Respectable Members that a purchaser of a such a once-fine watch as this would be 'correct' in correcting this dial and what seems to me to be fuzzy printing on the Tachy dial.
Not that I am interested in buying it, but I am interested to know what conditions 'permit' correction of known faults - such as this messy dial. And also setting aside what I consider to be a very high price for this watch, etc, etc. Just interested in understanding if and when there are ever conditions in which Respectable Members would consider re-dialing to be preferable, acceptable, desirable.... inform me, educate me.

Well, in answer to your question I don't have a problem with correcting something that is wrong with the CORRECT replacement part on the right watch. Many seasoned collectors have a few nice dials or cases etc that are just waiting for the right watch to come along at the right price.

My view is:

If it is on your "Grail List" or if it is a rare or valuable piece and the price reflects the fact that it is re-dialed - then buy it - bank one and wait for a better one.

If not, then pass because there will be another one available shortly.

I am a heretic. There, I've said it now. There are times when I feel that sensitive - accurate - re-dialing can be appropriate. My dream, my desire is to find the perfect watch, of course. But sometimes I find something that simply needs attention; if not, the watch itself will bump down yet another notch, the case will be melted down, the movement sold for parts, whatever. I guess I'm a soft touch, but I just can't bear to see watches 'die,' and want to save these mechanical marvels, preserve where possible, breathe new life where necessary.
I am a heretic. Sometimes. Not very often, but sometimes.
For instance: I love this watch, an Eterna 520H c 1946, but my main watchmaker is horrified that I don't want to restore the dial. My other watchmaker says you ought to re-dial only when you can't bear to look at it anymore. A good point, and I agree.
And finally: apologies for bruising the eyes of Team Speedie with this pic, but it illustrates my point best of any of my collection.

Since that thread, the T's have been removed by JLC to make it completely accurate. Here's another redial they did:

I have no issue sending any watch to JLC for restoration. They charge a princely sum (the redialing alone cost $900) but totally worth it.

Of course, I doubt that they (JLC) did the dial. Some subcontractor probably got EUR150 to do it. But hey, that's being mean spirited - the re-dial (minus the Tritium Ts) is fabulous. All the detailing is fabulous. One very lovely watch, indeed. Superb work. Sadly, though, I've seen some pretty awful stuff done by Omega. JLC seems to be upholding their standard very nicely, indeed.

Somebody had some "turquoise nuggets" to do that to what was a nice watch!🙄

Now taken down... "This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing." Uh huh.
