Sage words, Respectable Member Seamonster. Sometimes I just want to scream at eBay, "Don't but this; do you realise what it is?"

Indeed. But more to the point: who buys this stuff? There are a million billion skjillion of these abominations on the Bay. Part of me wants to mock - it's all they deserve, really - but I am filled with the realisation that they're there because they sell. Someone out there is buying one right now. Amazing. It's a terrible shame that there's a market for this stuff, but there is...

People who don't know any better. To them, shiny > original. I want both which is why it takes me months or even years to find The One.

Those unscrupulous elements are not interested in people like us, who are more or less a purist, when it comes to vintage-watches.

There are zillions of these ignorant people, who want to own a so-called vintage-watch that is 100% 'one of its kind'. Whether it is authentic or not, they could not care less or just refuse to learn from collectors, books and also, forums members here or elsewhere. The deceptive and fraudulent traders are more interested in the zillions rather than people like us, only a trickle I reckon.

We can bark, we can scream all day long till our heart stops beating but it is not going to change the modus operandi of those idiots with half a brain, who think about making a dishonest living, while ignoring authenticity.

    Thank-you.

I submit that it's not deceptive or fraudulent if the seller lists their watch properly. I've had conversations with a few that flat out admit they cater to the customer that makes them the most money. That's the regular Joe or Joanette who we might think is ill informed. All they want is a brand name watch that's pretty & shiny so the sellers give it to them. We're only a tiny portion of the market for watches and have no power to change the world even though we pretty much boycott these sellers and their watches.

Gotta love the Swiss Movement at the bottom. Nice touch by a master of the art.

You are right, of course. On the other hand, if I look at the Zenith Respirator listings on eBay, there are at least 7 Thai 'Respirators' that have been there for a year or more. So perhaps there isn't such a huge market for this stuff, after all. I suppose they buy up beaters for cheap and paint them up, adding a few hundred dollars and pricing them as though they were authentic. Strange world. They could just as easily fix them up to look as they are supposed and sell them more easily to those less expert.
    Respectfully yours...

Indeed, it must be a replica watch, surely. Not a good one, just a replica.

Sometimes the certipieds get in the house. You have to be careful - they sting.

Dreadful things, those certipieds. Fortunately, when you wear a chrononeter, it protects you from certipieds and tax audit. Or so I'm told...
