new figures on sales of Swiss watches around the world.
    (Taken from nick hacko)

According to the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry (FHS is an umbrella organisation for 500 Swiss watch manufacturers) 2015 total worldwide sales of watches are down 3.3% from 2014.
This was predominately due to 23% less watches being sold in Hong Kong and 33% less sales in Russia.

The markets which generated more profit than in 2014 were France, UK, Sweden, Austria and Netherlands.

Australia is ranked 19th on the list of Swiss watchmakers with total sales of around AUD $280 million and massive growth of 15% since 2013. Looks like we are still doing just fine.

-3.3% compared to an exceptional year isn't bad, or did I miss something?

Interesting the growth in sales in the US 2013 to 2014 the half percent dip after that in 2015 ain't bad.

Russia down 34% as the money laundering laws catch up with them... London property will be the next thing to take a dip (at the very top end).

Their currency tanking is likely the main thing, everything's gone up dramatically in price

Surely HK sales are actually for the Chinese market (Chinese tourists / port of entry & distribution to the Chinese market), not just HK locals?

My first ever watch came from my dads, bosses trip to Hong Kong. Has always been a watch buying stop over since the 80s. Still some of the biggest duty free stores in the world.

Like the Caribbean is for cruise vessel passengers. The amount of dive watches that came out of the Caribbean in the early days would surprise you...

Yes I think so. And China on mainland sale also dropped as well. Chinese economy seem to be slow down

You are bang on the money about HK being a prime watch tourist location, with no sales tax. Below a link to a great AblogToWatch article about HK watch shopping:
