Wonky Star On My Constellation

Hmmm pretty expensive. But, I can understand why you chose Somlos as there is an Omega connection and one would naturally think one was getting the best.

I would query them about it as the dial has been refinished to what generally one could say was only a mediocre standard. If you can get a refund, go for it. Then we can all chip in and help you acquire a top line collectible for much less.

As I say, don't despair. There wouldn't be one individual on this forum (unless they were a member of the minor deity) who hasn''t had the experience of a disappointing acquisition.

Regards

Desmond

Well I paid 拢2,250 for the watch. I thought I was going in pretty prepared after reading countless posts on this forum and your excellent blog (I assume you are the same Desmond?). I knew I was paying a hefty premium but thought I would get the real deal so was prepared to take the hit.
It's funny you say 'George has probably got to foot the bill for his sixteen grandchildren's orthodontics, his upcoming prostate operation and his wife's excessive generosity at the Synagogue.' as when I was buying the watch I was dealing with a chap called Clive and he was waiting for a call to let him know about a birth of a grandchild. Oh well at least I've kept a newborn in nappies for a year!

So that you have a reference I would rough estimate that your watch is worth 500-750拢 on the UK market.

Thnaks Cicindela, I will know for next time.
And thanks for your words of encouregment Desmond, I'm pretty sure a refund would be out of the question but I will go back there next week to ask them to sort out the star and replace the crown.
Cheers
Adam

That is the exact facial expression I had when reading that price. 拢2,250 is over $3,600 which I believe is about the same amount Steve (Cicindela) paid for his 18K solid rose gold all original Constellation Pie Pan Deluxe.

Adam, if it makes you feel better I want to illustrate what Desmond said in the above quote. My first Constellation purchase was a horrible redialed franken. As soon as I can get home from work (Photobucket is blocked) I'll post a picture here.

I actually think it WAS a dome which someone tried to make into a pie-pan.

And spend a lot. Taking up smoking is cheaper in the long term.
