Up for sale is a 1991 Rolex Explorer II, ref. 16570. The watch is in excellent condition and has a beautiful and rare patina that’s nicknamed “chicchi di mais” (corn and gran). The nickname is due to Tritium on the hour markers aging to a creamy yellow while the hands are bone white. The dial is the earlier version of the Explorer II with the porcelain effect and beautiful eggshell patina. X serial number dating to 1991 Movement: · 3185 Rolex caliber · Original "open 6" date wheel · The watch runs well, and according the previous owner, the movement was serviced approximately three years ago. · The movement photos are from the previous listing as I don’t have the tool required to open the back. Dial & Hands/Hands: · The porcelain white dial is in excellent condition. Under high magnification you can see some cracking in the tritium on the minute hand, I’ve circled this in red in the photos. Bezel: · The bezel is in excellent condition and has sharp black engraved numerals. Bracelet: · The bracelet is the original 78360 with 501b end links, with 13 links. · The clasp is original to the watch and the code (P) matches the serial number.
