Wishing a pocked watch for my desk

Dear forum,

Thanks for accepting me and approving my registration. I'm living in Eastern Europe - a place that's not famous for its economy. Luckily last year I had some spare time jobs and I was able to afford myself a Bulova Lunar pilot and a Longines quartz Conquest.

I don't have big goals for 2021, but I noticed that I've been looking forward to a vintage omega for my desk. There are a lot here for $500 or below that, and I'm keeping in mind that I'll want it serviced as soon as it's bought.

But since I'm writing here, I'm worried about counterfeits. I may be able to accept certain deviations - for example, a simple pocket-to-wrist conversion, or maybe even a replaced hand if it was broken. But everything else should be original. Case. Dial. Engravings and the logo. And especially MECHANISM! This is the most important thing that should be absolutely, 100% original.

I hope that I'll be able to posts photos here for independent identification when I choose an offer.

Meanwhile, is there a good tutorial about where to start? I do want to have basic knowledge about distinguishing counterfeits from originals. Or simply asked - what to look for?

Welcome to the forum. There are fakes and made up watches out there, so good that you are aware of this already. Some of the older Omega pocket watches didn’t have their movement signed, so you’ll really have to make sure you get some opinions here before you buy. Your budget of $500 plus the cost of service should get you a very nice Omega pocket watch

I did not see many counterfeited pocket omega - but I never seriously looked for it. Most of risk in your case will be in the mechanical condition of the movement. A lot of them were badly mistreated, and even more badly repaired... Make sure that it is in good shape mechanically, and walk away if you are not.

Happy hunting!

Honestly most pocket watches are real and really affordable, also I assume easy to service, since they are huge

Most decent pocket watches have movements that are too large for a wrist watch. A wrist-to-pocket conversion should not be your major concern.
