·Just took delivery on a new Speedmaster Moonwatch. Winding instructions say to wind until the crown stops. Mind doesn't seem to want to stop. I performed as much as 90 turns and so far, it hasn't stopped. Is this normal?
I turn an omega hand wind no more than 30 turns every morning when worn daily. I've always been afraid to overwind. I have overwound a couple "less expensive" watches.
Can you overwind an omega?
If you use a Visegrips, yes, you can overwind an Omega. If you winding it with your fingers it would take a lot of extra force to overwind it. Don't be afraid, the best performance is to wind it until the crown stops, every day.
Honestly, I just can't understand this inherent reluctance to fully wind a manual watch, they are designed to be wound until the mainspring is fully wound and the crown can't rotate any more. Just do it, you'll be a better man for it!
