I really like the "gimmick".
So said Omega when they came up with the MoonSwatch.

That "gimmick" adds 1.5 mm to the thickness and makes the watch top heavy. Likely why Omega ships it with such a stiff strap. I'd rather have a better wearing watch than an animation that I will look at once or twice a year... IMO, the silver dial and the shade of blue are what make this watch special. The casebook is not a selling point for me. In fact, I find the moon print very low quality compared to the rest of the watch...

Are you surprised that a watch that carries the name of a cartoon dog, puts highlighting that cartoon dog over more functional features such as wearability?

Not likely, the Snoopy 45th was a true limited edition (1970 pcs) with a very unique dial which captured the whole meaning of why Omega got the Snoopy award. The Snoopy 50th is open ended in its production with only Omega knowing how many were made, but probably 5x to 10x more than the previous one. The dial is average, imo, nothing to really write home about, Omega has done far more attractive panda dials in the past. The show is the animation on the back which is cute but not that compelling, gimmick comes to mind. Many people have bought the Snoopy 50th in the belief, hope, that it's price will soar like the 45th did. It won't. They won't dip below MSRP but they aren't going to be an investment piece either. Just my opinion.

Interesting take. Wasn't the crazy popularity of the 50th the reason the 45th shot up in price?
I thought the 45th was an easy to obtain LE that re-sold below retail like all other Omega LEs of the past.

Hm didnt realize that. So it just went up with the watch market during the pandemic hype.
Was the 45th easy to get at launch? I cant recall.

No, it was never easy to get and never traded below retail. It sold out immediately and it took them a while to deliver all 1970 because of the hand engraved caseback .

As soon as the 45th was released, it traded above retail. That was basically the first Speedmaster LE that actually did that. Before the 45th, just about every LE Speedmaster sold below retail on the gray market.

Apparently many ADs didn’t even bother with ordering the LEs because they weren’t selling 😀

The release of the ST1 saw all the LEs start to go up. Then the release of 10000 of the 50th anniversary Moonwatches slowed things down but the announcement of no more LEs has added to several LEs sitting at a good price.
Yes the 45th silver snoopy was over $30-35K when the 50th was announced.

Odd that there is
158 Snoopy 50th watches on Chrono24
40 of 50th anniversary moonwatch
20 of each of the Speedy Tuesday watches
13 Snoopy 45th

Even more odd that $20-50-100K vintage 321 Speedmasters were a dime a dozen at $1000-1500 on eBay all day long in 2012-13 and DON bezels were less than $200 and everyone thought crazy money when they went to $500 (wasn’t long they were at $2K)

I've pretty much given up on my local AD in favor of my local OB.

And although my local OB rarely offers any discount, they do give me front row seats to LE models.

I look at the 'in stock' number and not the value showed on C24. Instead of 158 50th Snoopy's there are only 120 shown as 'in stock'.

Regardless, there are a LOT of Snoopy 50th watches available in proportion to the probable number made compared to other limited release Speedmasters which tells me that many of them were bought with the idea of flipping them for a nice profit and not bought by collectors for their own use. That expectation was driven by the very high prices the true LE Snoopy 45th got right out of the chute. It will be interesting to see if the 50% to 100%+ premiums can be maintained long term, I doubt that they can and prices should continue to trend down as the market becomes saturated. We will never know how many Snoopy 50th's will eventually be made but it is a boatload (probably 5 to 10X the 45th Snoopy).
