Actually, for the next time capsule prediction: where do you think the Ed White will tend to level off? I'm going to guess it will match the similar-era Daytonas, around $28-32k. When? Three years?

Condition and "unique factors" are already driving asking prices to these levels. Tropical dials, blue bezels, etc., are already at this price range.

Amazing that some folks did grasp that this is a 3 year old post and prediction and that the Ed White has already hit 5 figures.

Funny that the original thread played itself out in just 6 posts.... meanwhile today a "Will the Ed White soon be a $50k watch?" thread would probably run for at least a week

I think a proper 7912/6 bracelet has increased at a higher percentage than the Ed White it is attached to.

Lets have a picture of a possible $50k watch in 5years, or maybe $20k.... or maybe $5k . Who knows, but i'll still love it.

Please tell me where you can find a good Daytona for $28K and I will gladly pay you that. :)

Also, time to start the thread "Will the Ed White soon be a 6 figure watch?" ::facepalm2::

Who knows, I would have never guessed that the market would have moved so quickly as it has.... that's why I'm not a stock broker!

Here are my two, will they increase in value? Probably they are nice examples in great condition. (Second recorded replaced on the 65 now) but I didn't buy them for that reason, I bought them because I like them.

Agree with @gemini4 about the bracelet etc, N6 ends at £1500, 7912 BCT nearing £2K and 7707 north of £2K and DON bezel's £3K and rising, the parts are appreciating faster than the watches at the moment. Hands and dial make all the difference and these are the true premium items imho now!

What would a geniune nos complete set of 2998-1 radium hands or a mint base 1000 fetch in today's market? What would a minty 2915 or early 2998 dial fetch? Food for thought

@Tom Dick - very nice pair of Ed's. I agree with much of what you said about the parts but for the 'hands comment.' I think radium hands are prized but I don't think that the stick tritium hands are as valued since (I think) the hour/minute hands are unchanged from the 105.003 for a long run into the 145.022's. [someone let me know if that's not true]

If you don't have a great set of lume on the stick hands, doesn't seem like it'd be that hard or expensive to swap them from a 145.022 or have a good and matching relume done. I understand the chrono hand is a bit trickier but it's not exactly a lollipop.

And chance you could post the -65 with the new chrono hand?

I think that the market will continue to drive prices up, especially for rarer models in excellent condition, being relatively new to the Speedmaster game I was not as shocked at the prices of the watches and in fact surprised there were not closer already to that of the Rolex sports models. What has surprised me is the value placed on the parts as @gemini4 and @Tom Dick have mentioned, I struggle to fathom placing such high value on 7912/ 7707 bracelets and number 6 end links when fundamentally (and sorry if I offend anyone) they are not very nice bracelets, later ones are folded steel (like a seiko band) and they feel cheap and nasty, if you have hair arms like me they also give you a free waxing.

That said when people are now chasing 'the best' and strive for completeness and originality I can see dials, hands, bezel and bracelets climbing like crazy. When I was very new to collecting I saw a 2915 'Hippocampus' box trundle through ebay for nearly £4K, it was then I realised this was going to be an expensive past time :)

Where will the US dollar be when an Ed White is 6 figures?

I actually think these are great bracelets. The spring links let you dial in an extremely comfortable fit, and I never found these to pull any more hair than my 1171 bracelets. But that's just me...

Aside from the fact that the blue bezel is rare, and taking that out of the equation: does anyone prefer the aesthetics of that color over the black?

    Nope.

Nice, evenly faded, yes. Blue, not for me.
