Why No SMP GMTs?

Hi Everyone,

My first post here. I apologize if this question has been asked before but I don't understand why Omega isn't making any new SMP GMTs? I know they've got "traditional GMTs" in the Planet Ocean line that have the rotating 24 hour bezel but the POs just don't do anything for me. They look kind of boring and 17 mm is just too fat for a watch that doesn't really have that much in the way of complication.

I have small wrists but have gradually been pulled into wearing larger sized watches just by virtue of what's available on the marketplace. The SMP size is about perfect for me in terms of diameter and thickness. I know there are the old models like the "great white" and the black-dialed two-tone bezel version but I just don't like the way they look. I guess I'm just too picky.

Maybe they're holding off until the antimagnetic revision of the SMP. You could get the chrono-GMT SMP now, but it's stupid thick.

I would be prepared to accept a stupid thick watch if it was both GMT and chronograph since it's not thick for just the sake of fashion. However, if I were going to get a GMT watch I would want a 24 hour bezel so that I could shift it around to figure out the time in different time zones. The SMP GMT Chronograph is really a dive watch first and GMT watch second which is why it has the 60 minute bezel and a 24 hour inner ring. The ultimate GMT watch would have an inner 24 hour ring as well as rotating 24 hour bezel. Just my thoughts.

Yeah, that's what I'd figure, too, a 24-hr bezel being the proper method. Or, a 60-minute dive bezel can be used as a GMT with a little math, and it'll work with half-hour time zones and still be usable as a laundry timer.

Either way, Omega isn't currently selling a direct competitor to Rolex's GMT. Maybe they want it that way.

The SMP Bond GMT can also be in your short list; I bought mine used a few months ago (hard to get) and love it!

Nice simple deville GMT is nice. No diver, no bezel, but pretty nice looking. There's a few out there now.

Wow... the Aqua Terra line is definitely growing on me. The teak-blue dial is pretty unique-looking. I wish it had a rotating 24 hour bezel though. I have a Bond SMP already so going for a GMT version would be overkill. Why has the 24 hour bezel been forsaken by so many companies?
