While some people refuse to buy a watch with a comic character on the dial, others pay over €40,000 for one. We will try to explain the immense popularity of the white dial 2015 Omega Speedmaster. Before the introduction of the Omega Speedmaster Silver Snoopy Award 50th anniversary watch (we showed it to you here), […]

Thanks for sharing the article, interesting read. Yes, the 2015 Snoopy is my favorite too, but, all watches have a price ceiling for me. As much as I like the looks of the Silver Snoopy... white dial, luminous glow, the whimsical cartoon, the caseback, the strap, etc, I wouldn't pay 40,000 Euros, maybe 12K, and that isn't ever going to happen in the near future unless there is a complete collapse of the watch market place... like the apocalypse.

Sometimes I think I miss some kind of watch gene. Why in the hell would you pay 40k for a watch with snoopy on it? Anyway, I think in English you say: 'to each his own'.

...Why in the hell would you pay 40k for a watch with snoopy on it?..

I like your alternative title better.

well I guess I should have bought one when they were trading for "only" $15K 😁

edit: sorry but this made me chuckle a few times 😀
chuckle#1: "My tip for any collector would be patience. The item you missed today will reappear later." - yes, at 40K instead of 6K.
chuckle#2: "So is networking, as the more [...] dealers, and auction houses that you make contact with, the better. They will help you find that special object." - please remind me who this gentleman is working for, again 😁

Great article and insights beyond omega no matter what @Robert-Jan 👍 Qui bene amat bene castigat 🥰

Oh goody. Does that mean I'll be able to flog this (LHS) on the coat tails of the white dial fad for £10K sometime soon? After all it combines the Snoopy 2 and 3 colour schemes. No? Ah well.

I read the article with interest- very informative.

However and somehow,..
still that question lingers in my mind which remains incredulous - Why Is The 2015 Omega Speedmaster Snoopy So Expensive
.. I know I know .. ;
Just simply that there are ppl willing to pay or play at these prices and no need to be logical beyond that.

Yet the 5 whys i ask myself: why, why, why, why, why.
Again and again.( I better stop for it is an open question in my head (on this subject.))

I love Snoopy, and I love Speedmasters, but I have zero need for this watch. For me the Snoopy islike one of those Rolex with a tractor company logo on the dial: whimsical but not desirable.

Why in the hell would you pay 40k for a watch?'.
FIFY

We have sadly become a very decadent society.
That is how empires fall.
When people care more about their individual satisfaction and their binges than about values, other people etc.
I hope the economic bloodbath we are about to witness whips up what little sense of decency is left in our communities.

Best regards

Regarding Silver Snoopy, for me words like "bandwagon", "momentum" and "FOMO" come to mind. With 1970 of them in existence, it isn't a particularly low-issue LE (compared with, say, the Albino) and I think a lot of people just saw what was starting to happen with prices and wanted to be part of it. I'm not predicting it's a bubble that will burst (maybe it will) but the spotlight will eventually shine elsewhere and prices will at least flat-line, and may come down, when people start to see there's no more money to be made by continuing to hold. Even some serious collectors will start to have second thoughts about hanging on after considering the amount of money tied up in that one watch.

You left out reason number two. Find the right item at the right price. The right price for you. I am a collector and I work in the financial industry (which is a fancy word for selling insurance) unrelated to watches or watch companies. I will also say that while timing is everything, buying collectibles for investment purposes is not the best financial strategy. 😀

I have always been a huge supporter of fair and free markets. If you want to buy something and sell it for more because that is what the market dictates, then by all means...

At least with the Omega brand, most buying opportunities are usually present to all if you are on top of your game.. For example, if you follow social media, stay in touch with the community and your local OB, you will naturally have more opportunity to get the latest and greatest before others. And to some degree this buying and selling of "hot" pieces is good and healthy for the watch market because it fuels desirability and helps long term value retention / increase.

For many watch enthusiasts, the piggy bank is not unlimited so buying often requires selling. And as you become more and more immersed, the natural buying and selling cycle often speeds up. Watches get "old" quicker and it eventually becomes about the chase more than anything else. So, you buy a watch, try it out for a bit, then sell it.

But the Silver Snoopy is the most ridiculous and nonsensical example of modern Speedmaster collecting. I can honestly tell you that it was not that easy to even sell for 20k only 1.5 years ago. There were other models that shot up over this time - like the TinTin - but it went from 2.5k to 3k to 3.5k to 4k to 4.5k to 5k to 6k to 7k to 8k. Prices ultimately tripled, but the watch was partially misunderstood and underappreciated compared to other LEs/LPs to begin with - so it was more about new information coming to light and a catch up. Yes, there was obviously a group effort by some dealers to speed this up, but at least it made some sense (I think).

So how does the price of the Snoopy magically go from 19k to 40k in 1.5 years?

Such rapid doubling of prices without anything in between for a product which has been the same since its release 5 years ago is not healthy and some words that come to mind are ... bubble ... bitcoin ... etc.

Other than a few special features, this is still a modern Speedmaster... I love a good Speedmaster as much as the next, but come on...

Who is paying 40k? Seriously? And why weren't they buyers when the watch was 12k? 15k? or even sitting at 20k?

I know it might be dangerous for a lover, supporter, and seller of modern LE watches to say such things, but my mind is blow!

Having said all of this, if someone walked up to me today and offered me one for ONLY 29k, I'd probably buy it. And then maybe sell it before I got left holding the bag 😀.

Never seen anyone with more than 1.

Think it’s more enthusiasts that like them more than collectors

I don’t think it’s really collectable it’s just rare. ie) there is only 1970 of them and probably 5000 wanted one in 2015 and 10000 want one now.

I Have watched the last few releases bring many new members to the forum. 1st posters keen on the latest Snoopy and 1st posters keen on the 50th anniversary
Even watched 1st posters who scored one of the Speedy Tuesday watches

The real collectors of Speedmasters usually doesn’t own much after 1970s

No Snoopies in this collection

Uh oh. You let the Led out!

Flash backs and paralysis. 10, 9, 8, 7, ....

Okay, it passed. Phew.

The juxtaposition of that collection and that record is a bit mindblowing.

EDIT: speaking of 1970..

I would tone it down to " no Speedmasters after 1997... "
The NASA company car but the astronauts preferred a Chrevolet Corvette aka "Vette"
The Speedmaster was the company wristwatch ... 🤬

Something to consider in this discussion is the fact that requested prices are only half the truth. I have been following the 2015 Snoopy on Chrono24 for some time now and they are not selling... Same listings available since a long time, even the cheapest one at 33k CHF (37k USD) doesn't move...
