Why don’t Seamaster 60s trade higher?

This isn’t a reference I know too much about, but it seems like one that would tick a lot of boxes for a lot of people: Omega diver with cool colorways, great wearable size for a vintage piece, fun bracelet…

Jacek just listed a burgundy one in decent tack: https://tropicalwatch.com/watches/zgxr

Seems a lot of watch for under $3500, and I gather from a few mins of searching that that’s about market price for these.

I know Seamasters don’t hold value the way Subs do, but is there something about these that folks generally don’t like?

To be clear, I’m not seeking permission to like them. 😀 Just wondering if there’s something material or reputational about them that I don’t know.

I love everything about it, beautiful dial, excellent 565 movement, nice chunky case and a good size (37mm) for the smaller wrist. Only downsides I can think are maybe the case is a little small for some and the bezel being made of bakelite is quite fragile so you have to be careful.

P.S. the one you’ve linked looks very nice and they are less common than the blue’s.

I think it’s because for not much more you can get the Seamaster 300 which is the pinnacle of 60’s/early 70’s Omega divers (PloProf notwithstanding but that’s a different beast altogether).

The relative affordability of the SM300 caps the value of the ‘lesser’ models underneath it.

Same applies to the SM120 as the SM60. I think the SM120 is an absolute bargain at £2000-2500 for a very good example.

Wait until Ashley writes a story about them, then they'll pop.

New reference to me but I like it alot. The dial has a great racing ring. Personally, i love bakelite. It's fragile like said, but that makes it fun to find if intact. Bakelite also has a 50's/60's vibe, which is nostalgic for me.

This is probably one of the models I most almost bought but never did.

Maybe people feel like it’s pretending to be a dive watch. I understand that 60m of water resistance is sufficient for everyone except serious divers, but part of the fun of collecting dive watches is the fact that they are true tool watches. This one seems to be more style than substance. At least that’s how I feel about it.

Perhaps because there's no " SeamasterTuesday " hype 😁
Might change if these are covered in the upcoming " Seamaster Only " book 😗

I understand what you are saying, but wouldn't that rule out all the popular skindivers of that time? That being said, I feel like 3000 Eur is quite a lot of money for a skindiver, so I wouldn't call them undervalued. One can buy a Connie with same / higher grade movement and arguably more intricate dial for a quarter / third of the price.

Most true vintage skin divers have 150m depth ratings. And yes, they are typically less expensive, $500-$2000. There are a bunch of fake diver-style watches from the era with 5atm depth ratings, which typically sell for $100 or less.

Agree! 3500 USD is a lot of money for "pretend" to be divers watch. There is a plenty of choses below 3500 that compete with this watch.
With that said, the design of Omega 60 is stunning in my opinion but I don't see it as a bargain.

I was about to pull a trigger on one om SM60 but then changed my mind and got this for less money and 200m depth rating.
I still don't intend to dive with it 😀

this one has a rarer outer dial with red minute indices instead of white. It also exists for the blue dial one.
