·I like watches that aren't especially collectible. I like what I call the working man watches. The watch a guy scrimped for to get a little better quality knowing the extra investment would pay off in reliability and durability.
I'm not dazzled by precious metals or decorative jewels, the magic of those small finely machined parts in action to serve a functional purpose is enough.
I'm about to turn 50 so I grew up when astronauts were a huge deal. They knew how to take a mechanical watch and use it to return from space at about 20 times the speed of sound looking out the window at stars. That is amazing to me all these years later.
Eventually I'll join the speedy club because of that but it stays true to what appeals to me about vintage watches.
