Why can't I find a decent Omega Seamaster 200m 166.091?

Dear all, hope everyone is keeping well and safe. I am grateful for this forum where I have learn't so much on Omegas and watches in general.

This is a rant. Forgive me but since I have watch friends here thought I'd go bother someone😀.

For some years have been looking for a pilot cased Omega Seamaster 200m 166.091 to complete my pilot line of watches.

I've encountered some in my quest and the problems that come with it. Used watch with pristine bezel (seller swore blind that the watch was unmolested), models with Ploprof hands (one seller accused me of not knowing my 166.091 when I called his bluff on hand replacement), polished cases that were sold as unpolished, dial replacement from a SHOM and so forth.

It would be safer for me to walk through an uncleared landmine fill. Please enlighten me why this particular model is so difficult to find in a good honest condition.

Have posted my pilot line watches previously but why not 1 more time?

Rant over and thanks for reading.

It’s really a solid tool. After, about, 44 years of togetherness thirty of which in my drawer sent it for a full service with Omega @ Bienne. Came back even better and will probably outlive me 😀. Although not an official chronometer the 1002 recently serviced movement keeps time within chronometer specs. All original, less hands, which though of the original type were replaced for new by Omega. However, I must confess that today my daily toolwatch is a Breitling Aerospace Evo…. Shame on me.

If you are trying to make me envious you have succeeded.. The ones on ebay and chrono24 are a shadow of yours. Enjoy friend.

My big blue and 1000m grand took me about 5 and 9 years respectively to secure. But then the big blue was serviced by Omega a few months before I bought it from it's 1st owner with all repaced parts included in the sale as well as service receipts. The 1000m was a safe queen from an Omega collector here in Singapore. Someone who had to liquidate a lot of stuff because of the economy downturn. He didn't want to do a face to face and got a watch dealer (also my friend who knew I was looking for one) to do the deal. That was certainly a sad sale as I can understand having to give up something you love.

Thanks for your post my friend.

@whiskeredbat, many apologies, no bad intent. Just sharing mine story. When I’ve bought it new, back then, it was nothing special, neither too expensive. Just a good diver (I served in the Navy). I think it kept the price nicely 1:1 after 40 years and some which I consider a nice bonus.

Oh dear, no need to apologise my friend. I have this sense of humour, when typed seems like I am taking offence. I am glad there are people like us who value the tried and tested and not a Richard Mille fan boy. Stay well and enjoy your watch for years to come.

Thank you Whiskeredbat. Re. Richard Mille, no it ain’t me and never was. My watches have to work for their cost and show time not show off 😀

After my rant about the SM 200m a member Flavio (flqt-9000) messaged he could help me out. He went out of his way to source a great example and had it shipped via DHL Express. From Italy to Singapore was just 2 days. Throughout the purchase process he sent videos and snapshots and explained why one was better than the other (he had 2 examples). Watch I bought is in outstanding condition, unpolished (case radial finish and edges sharp) and with all original parts. Buying online is never easy but Flavio made everything so smooth and straightforward. Thank you friend for your efforts and honesty. Now my quest to complete all pilot case variations is complete.

Very nice. Love the super wearable size of these. Is the dial on yours recessed?
