Why a Rally strap?

I like the Lug strap very much, so much so I tried to purchase a couple this morning. Unfortunately not a good experience and very frustrating. Their, “ready to chat” was untrue, which I could have accepted if they hadn’t said that they were ready to chat.
Unless I’m wrong, in order to have “medium” you need something smaller and something larger, otherwise you can’t have a medium. When it was time to buy, the drop down gave me two size options, small and medium, and this was across the whole range. A 125/80 fits me OK, but this appears not to be an option. I would have thought they’ll lose many customers by not offering an actual large option. ‍♂️
That is unfortunate! My only experience was the purchase of this strap and I contacted & purchased through their Instagram page (Lugs_Shop) and their response was immediate and super helpful! They were willing to do custom adjustments as needed as well so maybe try reaching them that way? I absolutely love the strap I received from them. 👍

Yes, I’ve done that. Let’s see if they bother to get back to me. I mentioned somewhere that I was looking at Heureville as well, but the single side keeper puts me off.

The rally is a nice look for any “timing watch” (Heuer’s were really the classic for rally straps as they were meant for auto racing), but as far as the historical connection- there isn’t one with the Speedy as far as I know . As for alternatives that have a historical connection, you should look at the NASA Velcro straps, the Forstner mesh bracelet, and the Uncle Seiko reissues of the Holzer, 1171, and his forthcoming flatlink.
Here’s mine on a rally:

Nice look for the Speedy, giving me some ideas for mine as I fancy a change from the bracelet. Thanks.

Sorry, I meant to write wide, not side, keeper. I tend to wear tool watches and so one single wide keeper is acceptable but I just don’t like it. Personal taste I suppose

They are great straps! The downside is the long lead times! I think he’s currently around 12 weeks!

I have three Lugs straps in the medium size on Speedmasters. I have a 7.5" wrist and I wear them on the middle of the five holes. No issues.

I used the chat function a couple of months ago and it worked fine.

Maybe I’m being impatient considering the times we live in. Possibly I should be more tolerant, I’ll give them another try.

Possibly I should have more patience In these difficult times, so I’ll try them again. My wrist is a little bigger than yours at 205mm (I prefer metric) so unless they could make it longer I’d probably leave it. As mentioned somewhere on this post, an Everest Rubber at 125/80 is nearly perfect. I wouldn’t want to use the last hole.

...Why a Rally Strap...

..because [IMO] many of them, when matched to the right watch, they just look too cool! 😉 I got this Di-Modell rally sometime ago and finally found some spare time to put it where it belongs 😀

what you think?

And I'm guessing that numerically way more Speedmasters have travelled in cars than ever travelled in space.
I rally strap is the natural wear for a chrono as has already been said.

My rallying days (navigating, driving, servicing) were more than 30 years in the past before I even knew that "rally straps" existed. My Heuer was on the original no-holes Corfam strap until it got too smelly 😜 then on a distinctly second-hand bracelet from the "R" entity.

Yup, including getting a bicycle past 15mph on a level road, and some other thing I used to enjoy but can't mention on a "family-friendly" forum. Yarns of the old days are all I have left 🙁 🙁 🙁

I think rally straps work well on the FOIS, too. Being based on the early 1960s CK2998, it ties in well with those pre-Moon motorsports connections:
