Left:
A rare 5201 013 version with the 25-66 movement from around 66/66. Golden hands, raised numbers in gold and printed logo.

A super rare 5101 013 version with the 25-36 movement from 1963. Black hands, black raised numbers and applied logo!

·I’ve got a vintage 1960s Certina Sportsman - love how it manages to feel both rugged and refined. It’s got that solid, no-nonsense build you expect from a tool watch, but still wears like a proper dress piece. One of those watches that just quietly gets everything right without trying too hard.

·Back to the Certeighties today, 1981 to be precise 😀
Certina did very much their thing since the early seventies integrating quartz early on in their product line.
Come eighties, the design language and options change with times. Here's a 1981 Newport model. Other than the very obvious nautical design and the roman numerals, two-tone accents, it's 6.9mm thick. The very comfortable bracelet has a small removable plate to have a jeweler replace with own initials or monogram engraved. How cool is that!

Let’s be honest about it, even on this forum: a 1950’s-1960’s Certina is a watch that’s quality wise better than… Ehem Omega. Yes, you read that right.
It really is peculiar to see that vintage watches of brands like Doxa and Oris today fetch a higher price than Certina from the same time period, knowing they were considerable inferior in quality. It’s just the hype built up around modern Doxa and Oris brands spilling over to their old watches.

·Bracelet found and a couple more photos for the Certina fans. I got this watch from a local collector/watchmaker. It’s a very early DS automatic with a non-turtle caseback and serial dated to 1960. The bracelet is date stamped “63”. A match made in heaven.
