The american idea of performance and styling certainly wasn't in the "european" mold back then (or now). The Mustang/Capri was still a pony car which meant power in a small package. 0-60 was the gauge of performance as our roads weren't english country lanes or alpine byways.
My first new car was a'79 2300 four banger Mustang hatchback. I was 18 on the test drive in Florida and at a light a 914 was giving me the business. The salesman said "do it" so when it turned green I blew his doors off. I turned to him and said "SOLD". I never lost to a four or six cylinder straight line. In the rain it needed to be parked if truth be told

I'm a depressed petrolhead. Very few recent vehicles strike my fancy these days. Most new cars look more like a computer platform than something I would genuinely enjoy driving on a mountain road, and electric motors just leave me cold.

I look back fondly on my early years of motoring, back when I had my first car. It was a Lancia Montecarlo which I loved and hated in equal measure. When the car was running properly, it was an absolute joy to drive, despite the brakes being a bit... temperamental. But when it decided to act up, which happened quite often, it was a complete nightmare. I have trouble thinking of something, anything, that didn't break at one point or another on this car. But one look at that Pininfarina-designed bodywork was enough to make me forgive it all.

The Lancia is long gone now, and after a string of Audi sedans, which I did enjoy thanks to their Quattro AWD system, I now only drive a company car: a Peugeot 308 SW.

Having experienced them in the course of my job over the last decade, I find that wagons make a lot more sense than sedans, and they drive way sharper than any SUV. I'm actually not displeased with the Peugeot I am driving these days, as its chassis is pretty well sorted and it's not reluctant to be driven fast. I would of course welcome more power, but at least I get to keep my driver license's point tally intact.

I grew up with wagons. My mom always had one. I just always thought they were unique.
My next door neighbor at the time had a B7 A4 Avant. Coincidentally I had one as well, but the sedan version.
Mine was a slightly different approach than his as his was set up fort the driving experience where mine was set up to get stuck on speed bumps!
He took me for a hot lap in it and I was so impressed. It was at that point I decided that a wagon was really no different than its sedan counterpart.
Or at least close enough that it didn't really matter (at least for some spirited street driving).
His had some Bilstein coilovers, BBS CH's some sticky tires and a big brake kit. All stock otherwise.

Brother that's a hell of a fit there, you look like you just walked off stage at OzzFest!

Well, the Inster Cross colour is "Urban Khaki" with "Dark Grey + Amazonas Khaki" interior.
And after my DIL dressed in a blue outfit to pick up her Kia Picanto GT Line in blue, I thought I'd keep up the new family tradition 😁.

Nice but there's an unnecessary wheel at the back.

Inster!! I love these. So cool. I have an Ioniq 5 but would love one of these as a 2nd car for either me or Mrs Mexico. Although the new Renault 5 is very, very tempting.

Like some ladies who are 75, but look years younger, that design is almost ageless.

The same cannot be said of current Bimmers. I struggle to think of one that is easy on the eyes these days.

I am pretty sure they hired two or three twelve year old boys to head up design for them a few years back.
