Who Among Us Wears a Speedmaster Professional as a Daily?

I recall a post where an OF member was so protective of his watch that he wouldn’t wear his Speedy if he thought it was going to rain. To each his own, but to me a tool watch is a tool, after all. Personally, mine is my daily watch. I love it, it’s comfortable, accurate, purposeful in appearance, and not bling. I take care of the watch, try not to bang it around, but I’m sure it will pick up some “patina” over time.

Who among us wears his Speedy daily?

The thing is, if you are a contributor on here, the chances are you have more than one watch, in fact the chances are you have more than 10 watches so while I don't baby my Speedies, they only get worn maybe 3 or 4 days a month as I like to mix it up and wear other things which I rate also. I'm a bit promiscuous that way!

I wear mine daily. Rain or shine

The whole speedies don’t mix with water thing is a bit silly. If they are well maintained and you use them properly, 👍

I get it. I was up to eight to ten watches, I think, but really only wore my Speedy. The others were novelties, expensive but not worn w any regularity. So I’ve sold them all except my Speedmaster and my fancy schmancy IWC Portofino, which IMO is a dress watch, rarely worn now that I’ve retired.

That’s a nice collection of straps Scarecrow. I’ll see if I have any photos of Speedy on other than bracelet.

I switch to my Speedy when it rains. It’s my go to daily watch. I’ve acquired a bunch of vintage stuff in the past year so I’m starting to live the “rotation” life but if it might get wet or banged around a bit I put the Speedy on. Mine is also a brand new 3861 so I’m very confident in its capability. If I had an expensive vintage piece I would baby it more. But any properly maintained Speedy is good to go.

I wear my Tintin daily unless it is expected to rain a lot or if I will be at a jobsite. In those instances I wear my Nivada-Grenchen. The Tintin has a leather strap, so that's why I don't wear it much if I will be out in the rain, or I will be sweating a bit. That wasn't always the case, but the strap got stained and degraded enough I figured it's not worth it. The N-G has it has a tropic strap, and is inexpensive in comparison to the Speedmaster, so it's a bit more sacrificial. I often wore a Sinn UX when I would be on jobs, but since I bought the N-G I rarely wear it.

it's a good question. in all my years, i think i can only recall seeing one person who wore a Speedy as a daily, my old boss. Datejusts, Subs, even Seamasters a-plenty, but just one Speedy. I wonder why that is, given it's arguably the most recognizable watch there is?

In 10 days time I'm headed off to Switzerland and France for a month, I'm planning to wear this modded Speedmaster. I like a bracelet when travelling as you always end up in rainy or humid weather which does a good leather strap no good.

I don't wear a Speedmaster every day, but I've definitely worn a Speedmaster more often than any other single watch. If forced to make the proverbial "one watch" decision it would be a hesalite Speedmaster. Here's my first Speedmaster WRUW post from seven years ago.

When I had 3 watch collection, I wore the speedy daily, then would switch off for a month or so to the others, then back again. Then a forth watch followed, then a fifth, then I had 80… yeah, I don’t wear it that much anymore.

I got my 1861 about 4 years ago. There has been maybe 5 days in that time when I didn't wear it. It's my only nice watch and one I wanted since I was 10 and saw Jim Lovell's Apollo 8 worn watch at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago (it's still there.)

And those were days I just didn't wear a watch for some reason. I wear a Mudmaster if I am on the beach, or in the ocean (rare). But the speedy is worn daily on different bands.

Great question. I totally was enamored of my Speedy, and within a month of getting it I was wearing it everyday. These two images were taken a couple of weeks apart. The scratches are deeper and longer than they appear in the photos. Hesalite lesson learned. When I get another one with a corundum crystal I will try the daily thing again.

polywatch works well on hesalite
I have some, but I am wondering if these are too deep to do much. Guess I should at least try. Thx for the suggestion

I'm currently in the middle of what will probably turn out to be a similar situation. I've got a number of decent watches but 99% of my rotation is between my speedmasters. I expect I'll get to the point soon where I cull most of the rest of my collection for that reason.

So to answer the OP question - does it count if a speedmaster is my daily, but it might be a different speedmaster on different days?
