Is this flat, doesn't look flat? When I google the ref it does show a flat dial.

I also thought the 3594.50 had a similar and a not so flat dial? Or is my definition wrong lol.

Yep, doesn't look flat to me either. But it is not as pronounced as it would be with the concentric grooved sub-dials.

Regardless, the step on the white dial 3861 does not take anything away from it's beauty. If anything, it makes it look more distinguished.

Answer has already been given, but at least on mine, there is zero definition or height difference between the hour track and center section as there is on the 145.022 and newer watches discussed here. We call that flat.

If anything, the applied markers accent the step in the dial, On my White Speedmaster, the concentric rings on the sub-dials are only visible in certain light or with a loupe. The longer i have it the more stunning the white dial becomes. IMHO
I gotta update my Avitar.........

Yep. I'm still happy with the purchase. It's hard to capture lume on camera.

And a family shot of Speedmasters. The Mark II was feeling shy.

How noticeable is the step on the white dial during daily wear—is it subtle in most lighting conditions? I absolutely love the step, but the dial looks flat in a lot of pictures I see online. I’ve only ever seen the white Speedy under the lighting conditions of an OB.

For me, it depends greatly on the viewing angle and ambient light.

My photography skills are just good enough I don't need to buy crayons, so I'm probably not the guy to show examples.
