Ultra Deep - marks on the dial

Hi, I have two marks showing on the dial of my Ultra Deep - between the 4 and 5 markers on the attached photos. I can’t tell if these are on the dial itself, or if they are shadows caused by scratches on the crystal. I didn’t notice them when I purchased the watch new (pretty sure I would have if they were present), but I would have thought if they were shadows caused by scratches they would move when looking from different angles? Maybe there isn’t enough distance between the crystal and the dial? Any ideas on how to determine what these are? Or should I just take it back to OB?

Doesn’t matter what it is, if it’s bothering you take it back and see what options you have.

You’ll most likely have to wait 4-6 months for warranty service and the likely risk of some more minor damage naturally due to a tech going in there and cleaning the dial.

I would just live with it, but you need to assess your tolerance to such QC issues and do what would make you, the paying customer, happy.

Thank you, I think I will. If it’s scratches on the crystal I can live with it - I wear it most days so it’s naturally going to pick up this kind of damage, and presumably it could be polished out at some point. But if it is a QC issue on the dial I can’t live with that - I don’t think it’s acceptable.

If it’s the latter, I would shy away from any sort of repair. Retouching hands/dials is a difficult process with a high margin of error. Try to see if they would do a dial replacement in that case.

I will do that. I really don’t like the idea of it being opened up/repaired and therefore introducing risk of other damage, but I guess I will have recourse if that does happen.

I have something similar on mine. I noticed it a while ago and my OB said they could send it in for warranty repair. I passed for now since its not a huge deal and I didn't want to be without my watch for months. Just gotta remember to send it in before warranty is over.

That's interesting - thanks for posting. I think I will get mine sorted under warranty once summer is over - I will be wearing the watch less frequently so it will be less of a pain to be without it. I also want to get it sorted while the watch is in pristine condition so that I can pick up any potential issues caused by the repair. I agree it's not the biggest deal but it is very irritating, I always look at it when I look at the watch, and its disappointing to have quality issues so soon into the ownership of their flagship diving watch.

Reviving the thread, wondering if you managed to get it looked at?

Maybe it's another easter egg; have you tried to lighting it with an UV lamp? 😎

I'm joking 😁

If it is scratches on the crystal, the marks would move if you move the light source.

Edit: old tread, sorry about that

I've been meaning to drop mine off for service but keep forgetting to bring it with me. Bleh and now winter is over.
