You're right Tony C.. When it comes to text less is more.

Also, not a big fan of the Mercedes hands (so that counts out most Rx watches for me 😉)
You need a prescription for “Mercedes hands”, wow, tough watch regulations you have. LOL.
Sorry but I had too

...and on with the list.

6) too much text (e.g. "officially certified superlative..." 😁)
...
Oh yeah, forgot about that... I hate to read a book on watch dials!

I don't know why, but I just don't like the simple crosshair subseconds. The have turned me off of sever otherwise very nice watches. For example:

L537-Longines-Cal-370-1964-1965-9ct-Gold-4-a-WM-670x503.jpg
YES, if you are going to mark out the space in pencil, do the guilloche circle work required to finish the job!

I never liked stylized lugs. The Constellation dog legs and twisted lugs on Speedmasters and SM300's just about reach my threshold of tolerance, and even then only on the appropriate bracelet.
I don’t mind ‘well fancy lugs’

Just kidding. But I disagree with you on the display case back and decorated movements, at least for some watches. My JLC Master Ultra Thin Moon has both and the movement, with its solid pink gold rotor shaped like the JL symbol, is both a mechanical masterpiece and an art object.

When you say JLC I will agree completely. When I think of gross decorations, I think of Chronoswiss several years ago...and some of teh boutique watch makers today. I have great respect for JLC and their history. Now you've got me looking for a Reverso.

Ok you got me there, as I have a Jaeger LeCoultre triple date moon with the same "horn" lugs 😁

Roman numeral dials
Time only watches above 39mm with barren expanses for a dial.
Stupidly thick cases (yes I’m looking at you Planet Ocean)
The overly rounded, ‘pebble’ like cases from the 70’s with hardly any facets.
Bright coloured dials.
Gold plate.

Mercedes hands on any watch other than an actual Rolex ruin it for me. I'm not a fan of them still on a Rolex, but I feel like any watch using them that isn't rolex is trying to look like a rolex. They are so ubiquitous and unoriginal

I personally dislike stick hands and stick lugs. In other words most of them after the late 50s. 😀

Not a fan of fluted bezels.
I’m not a big fan of date windows unless they are discrete or don’t bugger up the symmetry of the dials …
Never cared for Torneu barrel shaped cases. Reminds me of what I did not like about the 1970s.

Seems that everyone here hates most of the things I like about vintage watches.. Do you lot even like vintage watches at all? 😁😁😁

Here are two of my favourites:

No one said we hate your style of watches, all we are saying these are design elements we don’t care for. Your watches are very nice

Seriously though, I think the things I don't care for in vintage watches are not exclusive to vintage.

I've never liked any sort of hour numbers on a dial, whether roman or arabic. I know where all of the hours are and numbering them just seems redundant as well as dominating the dial in a way that's always at the expense of symmetry.

Roman Numerals! Barf. There's a reason the Arabs invented the zero: for watches.

In the future, will the following ever be added to this conversation?

- Wavy dials
- HEV valves
- Skeleton hands

These design elements are pretty divisive now. Who knows how they’ll stand the test of time? Cool or gaudy? Classic or dated? I really like the white Seamaster 300m, but there is a lot going on there. Would I tire of it?
