Where would your money go if it wasn't for watches?

I think standard of living would improve. Spending 1000 on anything daily expenses and one would have to think quite long before making a decision. Seeing a good 8-10k watch at a deal, I jump over the counter begging for them to take my money... Reasoning really doesn't exist with collecting watches some times.

I gave up smoking a pipe in 1979, when I was paying $1.59 for a pouch of pipe tobacco (~50 grams). Last I checked, that same pouch of tobacco was close to $16.00! My collection of watches has cost me a LOT less than tobacco would have, had I not quit smoking. But to your question, it might have been smarter had I been investing in real estate! Real estate might have been more lucrative, but a lot less enjoyable. The difference between life and living is having a few nice things!
From time to time to get rid of all my watch just to repay small chunks off the 🤬 mortgage.🫨

More would go into the woodwork shed. Need a new SawStop table saw.

Taking donations and will cover shipping. 😀

How much African Mahogany do you want donated and where too make the shipping bill out to. 😉

Saltwater Reef tank hobby. Had I only found interest in collecting fine timepieces years ago I would have saved literally thousands of dollars. 12-years into the hobby and many $$$$$$ spent.

Now my interests have changed and my collections is up to 4-wonderful timepieces.

A Manx Norton.

Did you know Norton and Triumph salesmen were required to wear Hushpuppies? They were very absorbent and would collect oil drips before they hit the floor. 😉

Beautiful bike, by the way.

If I didn't buy watches, the money would go to my kids. Now the watches will go to them. This way I get to enjoy the watches and so will they 👍

Other hobbies do intrude.

Early 1950s all. 1950 Smith & Wesson .357 (predecessor to the Model 27), 1953 Colt 3 5 7, and a period IWC watch that gave me the inspiration for the 1950s photo.
