Where to sell

I have this watch passed down for my grandfather. I am trying to see where a good place to sell it is and maybe find out what it's worth. Seems to be working good. I know the band has been replaced.

This forum requires that you have quite a few posts to sell here. Look on ebay for similar watches in similar condition, so you know a ballpark price, or just auction it off. You should not expect to get rich off of this one.

You will see ebay buy it now watches listed very high by the way, in many cases 2x or 3x what they would really sell for.

Because of some condition issues, this watch will not be of interest to a collector except for spare parts. So I agree that eBay is probably your best option.

Just a thought, but maybe keep and wear a heirloom from your grandfather and put a nice strap on it instead of getting $250 on eBay

This was my first thought as well. If you really don't have an interest in keeping it for sentimental value, eBay will be the easiest way to sell and will provide good visibility into how the market values this particular watch.

I have a couple of heirloom pocket watches that are absolutely gorgeous, but are also absolutely common. Even if I was completely desperate for the cash, it just wouldn't be worth it to me to give up those pieces. You need to decide if having $250 means more to you than a connection to your family's past for yourself, or maybe for one of the younger generation in your family.

Not many people who inherit watches know enough to take off the caseback and then present photos of the inside of the caseback, the movement and the dial. They seem to have made up their mind to sell it.

Yes, it's clearly a sales post, but obviously from a seller that mis-read the room.

Actually Im just a girl trying to figure out what kind of watch I have and what to do with it. Honestly It has no sentimental value to me. So if I could sell it or keep it it makes no difference to me.

Put it on eBay then. In most places there are no seller fees so you’ll get what it’s worth.

Your watch is a 2179 with a repainted dial with wrong hands, the crown is not correct, either.
Check the other side of the case back if it has stamped US ARMY on it then you can sell it for some money.

Keep it, and you’ll have it for the rest of your life. Sell it, and pffft! You’ll have neither the watch or the money!
