Hi all,

considering selling my fois in the future. What’s the safest place to sell watches of this value in the uk? I sold a seamaster years ago on eBay but wouldn’t consider that for this price level. Thanks in advance.

If you're not comfortable selling it yourself, you might want to sell it to a professional dealer, or have them sell it for you on consignment. There are also many large websites that sell pre-owned watches. I don't really want to publicize any of them, but you are probably familiar with them.

Yeah I don’t really want the hassle or risk of selling myself. If I go to a dealer what’s the ball park % they take? Haven’t ever dealt with a dealer so don’t want to get stung by them.

I think that many dealers will take a 25-30% consignment, but I don't know if they will take a mass-produced modern watch like yours. You can easily get quotes from the big websites like Crown and Caliber, WatchBox, etc.

Depends on how desirable the piece is, a FOIS is a pretty quick sell for a dealer if in great condition with box and papers.

Consigned in the U.K. will take 10-12%. Try vintage speedmaster (Darren is a mod on here).

the alternative is to flog to a grey - you’ll get bottom price but quick sale.

Ok thanks will have a look. I tried watchbox but they weren’t interested in quoting which seemed strange to me.

Interesting. Maybe that is telling you something about current market conditions.
