Where To Buy?

Be aware no authorized sellers of Omega or Rolex can sell online. They are at best new watches with no warranty, at worst a fake.

I didn't realise this! I've been looking at different options for buying a FOIS and this website seems to have good reviews and prices:
http://www.swisswatchesdirect.co.uk

Buy when they say their watches come with a 2 year Omega guarantee this isn't true?

Considering the eta movement is considered the better black Bay in looks, service costs and rarity...

No unless there is a language issue here.

The eta black bay just has the rotor decorated everything else is off the shelf easy to source eta parts, and should be cheaper to own on the long run, and most people feel a better long term investment as it considered to look better and is more rare.

Be careful here... they are grey market as clearly stated at the top of the website. The watch may be a showroom sample. Best case they can source older non limited edition watches that have not sold via AD's, and AD's are dumping them. At worst they are a scam. I've never heard of them.

Thanks for the advice, good to know. Looks like it might pay to save a bit longer and go through the AD route for peace of mind.

Grey Market rides that fine line between authorized dealer and black market. Basically they just buy from overstock and overseas market at discounted rates and resell. There is a GM for just about everything from baby formula to textbooks, with electronics being the largest.

For me it's a matter of math. Seamaster pro for example: $4400 list 4k with discount maybe plus 8-10% taxes or $2500 Gray Market which means I could get almost 3 full services (@550.00 sourced from Omega website) from Omega for before I'm at list cost...And it's Omega, built to last 😉. I have to be honest the only watches I have gotten from ADs were memory watches, purchased on vacation or gifts.

If you do decide to go Gray Market call and make sure they have it in stock.

Did I write this - No, but it sounds like me. I'm thinking about dealer reputation, dollar amount and item(s) being purchased - with everything having pretty much an equal weight toward my decision. Yes, my kids may want to sell this watch sometime so I want everything to be in order for that (far distance) transaction. But I don't know that I could tell this years model from the 2014 (or most other) models. My interest might be in new-old-stock if everything works out right in that direction.

I've recently decided that after working for 45 yrs. and getting our family affairs in order (sort of) I would like a nice watch. I've started my research (which led me to OMEGA Forums) and I've spent some time lurking and mulling various conversations.

It seems that online retailers have slightly better prices than local retailers, can you tell me where you purchased your Omega (Rolex, other) and why you went there? Would you shop there again, or let your kids shop there?

I know this type of question has been asked before - sorry to ask again so soon

Thanks,.
In 2025, my wife purchased my Rolex Explorer II from our local AD. We live in Canada (along Michigan border) and at that time the exchange rate was such that we could buy new from an AD in Canada for less than the same watch was being sold “pre-owned” in the US.

In 2016, I purchased a “new” Omega Speedmaster from www.chitownwatch.com. They listed it as new from an AD and that it was “still under manufacturers warranty”. It arrived with full presentation box and all items in “new” condition. As someone pointed out, I saved so much buying from this ‘grey market’ seller that I was okay with chance they I might have to pay for a service myself if warranty work was needed and Omega didn’t cover it. I had intention of having dial and hands changed anyhow (panda modification) and so I knew this would invalidate any warranty anyhow.

To me, the seller I used was a great deal. I could order online, pay with CC (which gives some limited purchase protection, and some CC points), and the product ended up being same as it would have been from any AD, only for less money. Hey also shipped it very quickly.

I ended up going to a watchmaker for the dial/hand swap and he didn’t see anything concerning inside the watch. I’ve worn it often in the last year and am very happy with it. In my case I ended up with a modified watch for similar/less than a standard Speedmaster would have been from an AD.

Any time you purchase from an online ‘grey market’ seller, there is definitely a level of “caveat emptor” they applies. You have to ask yourself if the price reduction is enough to offset this added risk in your mind.

I have seen people post about ordering from an AD/boutique over the phone and having it shipped. I assume you exclude this in your statement, and are referring rather to the type of sellers where people can “buy” it online.

I would also repeat what has already been said, there are several sellers who list watches on the sales forums here. You can find feedback and with research it’s easy to identify some of them who are very well respected and have many successful sales behind them. When you’ve done your research and decided what watch you want, you could reach out to one of them and I’m sure they’d help you locate the watch of your choice for a good price.

I've always believed that (with the correct research on my part) there are no better reviews than from people who have been in my position. When I'm looking at a vehicle I'll stop a guy in a parking lot and ask him about the car/truck he's driving that I might have an interest in - People like to help and many will hang around if they have time and answer any questions you want to ask. YOU have to do your own HOMEWORK, but I always listen to those who have been there before me.
