Where to buy vintage omega watches

I’m not trying to be cheeky I’m honestly interested in buying a quality pie pan or cross dial vintage omega (preferably pie pan). However it’s very difficult to sift through all these posts and even when you do read through them there is no clarity on where to go for a legitimate one.

Have patience. Everyone wants to buy watches like that. It takes a long time and a lot of effort to develop the necessary expertise to know good from bad and to develop a network of contacts who will offer their watches to you. It's the internet, so you are competing with every collector in the world, and most of them are more knowledgeable than you. Let's say there actually were some sort of secret place to get great watches at reasonable prices. Do you really expect experts to give information like that to a complete stranger, on an open searchable forum? At this point, the most likely way for you to get a watch like that is to pay a premium price to buy from a well-established dealer. If you're not willing to pay up, then be patient and put in the time.

Very good point. I didn’t think of it like that. Even paying a premium I do not know enough about vintage to make sure it is legit.

ty for the insight

That's probably true, but there are some sellers who often have nice pieces, or at least describe them faithfully. In the classified section of this forum there are two sub-forums, one for dealers and one for private individuals. There is also another sub-forum with testimonials. The same people often participate in the forum, show their watches, and give and ask advice. You can get to know people by reading the threads. There is also a private messaging function where you can ask questions privately. You can also search old threads to find recommended dealers.

Welcome to the forum @vin0616 - I see you have already gotten a taste of some of the fauna and flora around here.🤨
Vintage watches as mentioned can be a minefield to the uneducated. Someone with an untrained eye can see something spectacular looking only to discover it is a total fabrication- repainted dial, mismatched hands, case polished to death and lacking original finishes....patience and reading are your best resource- look at lots of examples of the references you like and learn their intricacies, what a correct dial looks like, what the chamfers and finishes of the case should look like, what hands are correct to each model.
Chrono24 is just as bad as eBay IMO, there are misrepresented watches there constantly, and some of the dealers who sell there are notorious for it.
Honestly, the best place to buy (as was mentioned within the first couple posts) is the classified’s right here. They are group monitored so if there is an issue or oversight by a seller it get called out quickly- fakes won’t even make it up. The “private watch sales” are from individual collectors and the “Watches for sale” are dealers who advertise their watches here. Even though you don’t have 200 posts yet, you can PM a seller if you see something that catches you eye.
Best of luck on your search.

Edit- Dan beat me to the punch on this as I was typing, sorry for the duplicate info.

And it comes back around to what my fellow Texan stated, search this Forum. Everyone of us started right where you are, so learn from us, and just ask informed questions about watches that talk to you.

Welcome

Sorry I was so droll on my first post.

Well then what does anyone have to post and talk about . May as well close the forum and make it a library
We have many new people that pop by, want things, take what they can and then disappear.
Please join us, make some effort, get to know us and to be known.
Then you will appreciate the forum, our library, as you called it, is a wonderful resource filled with lifetimes of work.
Join or leave, it's up to you, but disrespect?, I hope not..

Definitely no disrespect, tbh I’ve grown quite fond of Omega. I bought my speedmaster a year and a half ago and just bought a blue dial AT (struggled for a while on whether to go black or blue the black dial is gorgeous but so is the blue and color diversity was nice to have). I’ve been in to watches in general for a few years but feel much more drawn to omega than others. JLC is nice, Rolex doesn’t fit my personality though they make great watches etc.. this was my first thread on this forum and was a bit taken back by the why are you posting this comment. I’m trying to learn more about vintage watches before I purchase one, and hope to be a good contributor to these forums.

We often struggle with complete understanding of the feeling behind the typed word, especially with the nuances of different cultures and languages.

I took your comment as a judgemental criticism, expressed hope that it wasn't disrespectful and invited you to join.
Just as I may have misinterpreted your comment, I believe you may have misinterpreted mine.

All is well and enjoy the hobby!

Basically you ask the meaning of life to all of us here in your first question 😉

Just stick around and two years from now you will be here for another newer member asking the same.
