When will the 1861 Speedmaster be discontinued?

I know that it was discussed several times.
Nevertheless I was wondering if it is already clear when the hesalite and the saphir version will be replaced with the new 3861 caliber? Or could it be that they will keep the 1861 hesalit version due to the NASA certification? This one can still be ordered on the Omega website.

Any news on the potential price increase? Btw was the price in Switzerland already increased this year? I see a price of 4950 CHF for the Hesalite version.

As well, if the Speedmaster gets an update, what do you expect? Just a new caliber or as well an updated strap, ceramic bezel etc?

There’s already been a lot of discussion in a different thread about this. Like 11 pages worth last time I checked. There’s also similar discussions on WUS.

Nobody knows yet when it’s coming out or what it’ll be but everyone seems to be in agreement it’ll have a 3861 and be more expensive.

A lot of people have said the 1861 is discontinued or out of production now as well. I heard it’s no longer being produced but stock is still being sent out and sold through. One person on WUS had info about Speedmaster shipments from Swatch Group and there still seem to be a lot. But that will eventually dry up. When? Who knows.

NEVER. Ok, maybe wishful thinking. The SMPc may not be as iconic as the Speedy Pro, but it’s a lot more watch for the money IMHO.

They're great little tools. I'm much too young to have been issued one in the field. But a dear friend was a controller in Vietnam for the dust off guys. He raved about the p-38 can opener. I think I'll drop by his shop with a can of them for Christmas on my way home.

I love that you never know what you will discover on this forum.

P-38s came in all the c-rats. I always hated throwing them away as it seemed a waste. I was an Army brat and grew up on c-rats when we camped.

Here is a can of GP food I found in my basement dated Feb 1968. We used to also use this for my boy scout troop. I figured you two guys are the only two people in the universe who might be interested in this (besides my brother who said "cool.")

Does this mean I'm a hoarder? Does patina apply to food tins? How about 'all original' and 'barn find' (technically basement find)? Is there a vintage food tin forum? What's more rare, a Feb 1968 GP food tin or a Speedmaster 145.012?

Seriously though. What do I do with it? I can't just toss it? Put in my casket just in case I need it the afterlife? That would seriously mess with future anthropologists.

Are you not aware of Steve1989MREInfo?

The guy has a YouTube channel that is straight up mesmerizing. I'm sure he'd appreciate the chance to check out your vintage ration. Especially since the key is present.

I have been living in a box. Had no idea. Thanks for the tip. At some point it gets so old it moves into a historical artifact. I really hated the idea of throwing it away (obviously). Be great to get it to the guy who appreciates it. What's one odd ball can of old food? Garbage. What's 100 cans of old food? A collection.

    Thanks again. Appreciate it.

And apologies to anyone looking for info on 1861's.

    Cheers

These guys would have been happy to try it out. I don't know if the series was cancelled after the first season, but it was great.
