Have to admit it's nicely done. Even like the dial design. Can't figure out why he used 2 different calibers although 1 number off. Shouldn't have been that difficult to find two of the same.

    Bit dinky at 32 mm

    I think it's a redial, the 6 and 9 don't look right.

Two movements from different watches, a dial and case that have never been anywhere near Bienne, epoxy holding it all together...

I've come across this seller a few times during my searches and he has been known to have had some decent watches.

Almost every watch he sells has been 'serviced by a retired Omega employee'.....so surely he knows that this is a crock of shit?

My Uncle has one of those, he's promised it to me when he "goes".

I will then of course post it here asking what its worth and temping Archer and Ulackfocus to weight in because it has the ultra rare Omega "hybrid" movement. One side is a caliber 601, the other is a 1538 quartz. Being the original prototype mine uses silicone sealant rather than epoxy to hold every thing together. That also means its water and mildew proof!

I bet it was someone's schizophrenic grandfather that came up with the original idea.

@Garv I beg to differ. I rather suspect it was a safety critical systems engineering trainee; probably working for Fritz's uncle.

This is evidently a lab-built pre-production proof of concept prototype. The designer has understood the value of dual redundant design (if one channel goes down there is a back-up channel), as well as ensuring that each of the redundant channels is not based on the same design solution thereby avoiding common mode failures (bad batch of parts doesn't wind up in both redundant channels thereby risking a simultaneous failure). So, good grasp of the theory, but little evidence of field experience - the designer completely forgot about post entry into service maintainability... @tyrantlizardrex, not even Omega's Janitor is going to be able to service this.

Fritz's uncle really understands safety critical design. He used two completely different technologies in the two channels (mechanical 601 and quartz 1538) as well as understanding that silicone will provide better shock absorption than hard epoxy and can be easily removed by immersion in acetone during maintenance.

I think the designer of this rare custom piece got his first job at Tschernobyl, before moving on to Fukushima. He should have stuck to watches.

Crap indeed. I was worried you might actually have fallen for it. No not a lawyer, just an engineer that has to listen to this sort of pseudo-knowledge from non-engineers. If you listen long enough you get good at imitating it.

I spent 20 years in automotive engineering & QA...... I do understand!

And, after escaping from the QA manager/automotive bearing components position in late 2010, this past week the company I work for now was bought out by a company that makes automotive electronics!

HA HA HA HA HAAaaaaaaaa.................. (best insane laugh you can imagine)

    So I'm back at it!

Did somebody see my case of grenades?

That watch for sale is such an amateur effort...I see your 2 dials/movements, and raise you 3 more!
