Yes. This is an Omega forum but curious your take on their entry level Luminor Sub vs SMP.

People seem to either love or hate them. They are solid watches. Panerai are less popular at the moment than they were five years ago. But ultimately it’s a personal choice and you should get what speaks to you.

I can't get past the crown guard. Of the two, the SMP would be my choice.

Hard to get the crown guard past anything it’s so big lol.

Panerai are gorgeous watches and have a timeless look to them especially the dial layout and print detail. The 111 once was in my collection. Still one of my favorite dial layouts of all time. But the size, though you get used to wearing it, looked like I was wearing a boat anchor in pictures.

They are beginning to dip into the 40mm and lower range with a few selections as of late that are actually quite nice and may be a better watch to have a comparison to the SMP finally.

The smp is timeless. It’s a luxury tool watch that doesn’t scream luxury or anything out loud. SMP screams “watch”. Panerai have that scream trait to them for attention. PAM’s scream “look I’m big and weird”. 😁

Both solid. Both have history. Both are extremely well built but SMP all the way.....pre-ceramic especially

I had a 42mm at one point and it was a nice watch. I think a 40mm might even work better for me but the true Panerai aficionados want 44mm and up. There are a metric ton of them for sale on the used marketplace and resale values don’t seem to be particularly great (unless you buy used to begin with). I think it works really for some people and pretty poorly for others. You just need to get what works for you

Thanks everyone. I have a SMP a Speedy and a pasha now. I have a Vintage Constellation on the way.

Someone offered me a very nice looking 44mm (big) for a great price and was just curious. He offered to trade straight up. Just curious everyone’s take. Being indecisive.

Two brands i have no interest in are Panerai and Hublot, but there are many devotees of each. Good quality but not to my taste.

Ha. Hublot definitely overblown. The Pam seems to be a little less flamboyant but large.

Yup, a bajillion PAMs on the market that have a tough time getting sold. Get it if you *really* like it.

I'm thinking about adding a Pam to the herd. The PAM1441 has caught my eye:

You expose yourself to a broad range of opinions when you ask a question in that manner, I would suggest. I’ve never had the desire to own one of these, in any model.

the one model I would consider @ 40mm, w/o the funky crown guard..

Always fancied a Radiomir, been in the boutique in London a few times to have a look, but there are a few ahead of one in the list.

Make sure that it is in fact authentic if you do take the offer. PAM’s are notoriously faked and extremely well to boot.

I too always liked the case shape of the Radiomir and tried a smaller size version a few years. It didn’t have the nice wire lugs though so was a non-starter. Edit: just checked and it was the Radiomir 42mm.
