I rarely shave and look like this most of the time minus the bandana and fake hair

Handful of straight razors ranging from mass-market to custom, and a Merkur safety razor. I could not tell what shaving soap I currently have in the dish; I'm really not very into soaps, conditioners or aftershave.

I hate shaving. I used to shave every 3-4 days, then moved to weekly, then every 2 weeks. Since increasing work-from-home time due to the virus, I've gone to shaving about once every 3-4 weeks. The beauty of straight razors is it takes no more time to shave 4 weeks of beard then 3 days' worth.

I usually fully shave with the straight razor, and then chase it with the safety razor.

Over the past months I have been going for a buzz cut up top which I admit I do like but as to facials I have just let it go with the occasional self administered scissor cut.
Have to admit I am starting to get the impression that wife and daughters don't want to be seen out and about with me 😁

I dislike shaving. I also get fed up when I go unshaven for too long.
When I finally get fed up with the growth I use a Phillips electric trimmer to take me back to stubble. If I feel like a clean shave I then use a modern own brand thing from Tesco (I think it has about 7 blades - blade inflation is a thing, right?) along with Geo. Trumper soap and an excellent brush made by a friend of my daughter. No idea what kind of hair it has.
Nice-looking brush!

As a young man I grew a moustache to look older. The experienced crims I was giving legal advice to seemed more prepared to accept that I knew what I was talking about. Without it, I’d have looked the callow 19 - 20 year old trainee lawyer that I was.

But, there was a price to pay. My beard and sideburns developed a very itchy dandruff and I was delighted to shave it all off a couple of years later. Now, even a two or three day growth gets itchy - although no dandruff!

I use a Gillette Fusion and can shave in the shower without a mirror and using ordinary soap.

On reflection, probably too much detail 😟

Muhle weighted Mach 3 handle with Mach 3 blades (I know, boring).

If I'm in a hurry and need a quick shave, C.O. Bigelow Shave Foam w/ Eucalyptus Oil (produced by Proraso in Italy).

But if I have plenty of time, Geo. Trumper Spanish Leather Shaving Cream with a Muhle badger brush.

I can’t for the life of me understand who, years ago, looked at their face, and said, “Yeah, this all has to come off,” unless they had the foresight to start a shaver company. And then throngs of people mindlessly follow suit.

I cannot think of a more wasteful, ridiculous, perpetuated custom. Hair grows for a reason. Trust nature.

Beard on!

Thats a sick beard @M'Bob! I've got something similar but I had to cut off my twirly moustache last week as my wife was getting sick of it lol! Still got my beard though. Had a beard of some sort for the best part of 6 years. Its part of my identity now. Shaving it off would be like chopping off a limb.

The other day, while looking for something else, I ran across a few of my straight razors. From left to right they are: Big Chief Pathfinder, Boker Red Injun, Boker with a scene of the Chicago Columbia Exposition of 1893, and lastly the Case that I use regularly. The Case was a birthday gift from my dad when I was 16 and he was teaching me to shave. I don't really remember why I bought the Boker with the Exposition scene, but the other two I bought because being a "Red Injun" myself I got a kick out of them.

When I was hired at the police dept in 1991, we were required to have short hair, facial hair was highly discouraged. So, for about 30 years I was very squared away. Short hair with a fade on the sides and back. My hair grows in all different directions, add a six pointed hat to the mix and the best option was very short hair. Fast forward 30+ years... My hair still grows in all different directions there's just less of it. The pandemic taught me that my wife can do a great job on my head with a Wahl clippers from Costco. Set it on zero, no guard, and have at it. As for shaving, I use a brass "Espresso" I found on Ebay. It's a safety razor. Lifetime warranty. Use Williams mug soap and brush. I've found that the longer you prepare your face for shaving the better results, and less cuts. I'll lather up for several minutes and even shave twice to get really close. If I keep my hair short and grow a beard, I look like a seriel killer. If I let my hair hair grow, and grow a beard, I look like a homeless person. Divorce is expensive so I keep my hair short and shave.

Perhaps you can share your routine. My face gets extremely irritated with shaving to the point where I go days in between shaves despite my facial hair growing rather quickly.

The trick is to soften your beard. Some people shave after showering, some wash their face with hot water before shaving. Old time barber shops placed hot towels on your face, then used hot later before shaving. Again, the trick is to soften the beard first and limit the need for the stypic pencil!!!

Me personally, I prefer to shave right after I shower. The pores are open and the stubble is softened. If I am shaving without showering I'll use a hot wash rag (as hot as I can stand) and wash my face, going over the beard area a couple of times before I lather. Like WidowsSon, I use a mug soap and brush. You get a better lather and can apply it hot to your face. Moisture and heat combined really cuts down on the irritation and cuts.
