Overall, I enjoyed it and can appreciate it for what it is. I think that they avoided some of the mistakes present in the David Lynch film. I also think it was smart to break it up into two films. The book is really so large and complex that any adaptation is going to come up short.

I'll add that as an army soldier, I appreciated the sci-fi interpretation of parades and military ceremonies. The odd juxtaposition of the futuristic space crafts and the wail of the bagpipes highlighted the anachronistic feel.

Also, I sympathised with Paul Atreides when he has to don the galla uniform instead of one of the more comfortable uniform types 馃榿

Bonus info: the name "Landsraadet" is Danish/Norwegian and means "The National Council" or similar.

I haven鈥檛 seen it yet but very keen to, Dune is the only book I鈥檝e ever read cover to cover in my life as ADHD makes it really hard and somehow that book actually engaged me when none other did. I wasn鈥檛 a fan of the David Lynch version, didn鈥檛 mind the 2000s 3-part miniseries, and was blown away by the documentary Jodorowsky's Dune and so heartbroken about what could have been, but seeing Dennis Villeneuve taking the reins is probably the best thing next to Jodo鈥檚 being made, can鈥檛 wait.

I saw it in IMAX and I thought it was an amazing visual spectacle. It's coming back to IMAX on Dec 3, so I'd highly recommend seeing it then if you haven't seen it yet or haven't seen it in IMAX.

In terms of the movie, I was thrown off by the ending, which seemed kind of abrupt. I had this weird feeling where I felt like the movie was too long (because it's legitimately a long movie) and that it was too short because it ends so abruptly (because this is just Part I, after all). I also felt like Chalamet didn't have the gravitas to carry a movie, especially an action movie. He's a great actor, but I feel like he can only be a great actor in a smaller, more drama-focused movie.

Also, I was kind of disappointed because it wasn't as good as some of Villeneuve's other movies. Blade Runner 2049, Sicario, Prisoners, and Arrival are all amazing movies.

Loved it, and this analysis of the film鈥檚 vfx and lighting/cinematography made my second watching even better.
