I had some of the best fried oysters I've ever had in my life at...wait for it...the Houston airport at the 3rd Bar & Eatery.

there's a good recommendation for those of us who travel. Almost worth a sub thread - best airport food.

I love all the fine food mentioned in this thread so am going to spoil it by saying that I also enjoy a can of sardines or smoked oysters, with a green onion, some Roquefort cheese, and some Ritz crackers while sitting at a campfire at our old family place on the lake.

Houston airport oysters? Ocean or prairie?
When I lived in Colorado we called them Rocky Mountain Oysters.🤮

WOW - Grahams 1977 Vintage Port!
Rather than another cork, try Vacu Vin Wine Keepers.
Best and most affordable to keep any open bottles of wine for any reasonable period of time.
Available on line or most quality wine stores.

Thanks Miki, I'll check that out. I'm using CapaBungas now and they seem to do the job.

ps - decanting a bottle of '77 Taylor Fladgate for NYE.

We just had an amaz-balls dinner at our place in the mtns. Crab cakes, followed by Filet Oscar, galette potatoes, and grilled asparagus served with a great Cab/Cab Franc/Merlot blend.

Home cooking is the best - you know the quality of the food and if there is a problem with service, you only need to look in the mirror to find the responsible party.

This place is probably in the top best on the east coast to have a reuben sandwich!

If there ever was a breakfast of champions, this would be it: Croque Madame... Yummi! Paleo diet f%#k off 😁

Wow - that is a serious sunny side up egg.

The secret to well cooked eggs is they must start out at room temp.

I like lots of things that are bad for me, and I have cut back on them considerably...

Probably before my recent heart attack, this was my favourite meal. Not something I ate often, but my guilty pleasure as the thread suggests. Pierogi (various types like plain potato and cheese, sometimes with onions, or bacon inside also), couple of eggs over easy, and a bunch of fried onions...I would also fry up some sliced Polish sausage if I had any on hand. If I was forced to choose a last meal, this would be it:

Have to get a little bit of everything on the fork - it's heaven...

Of course limiting my cholesterol, one egg is more than they want me having in a day, so although I have had pierogi, it's only with onions and no eggs. 🙁

On a slightly different topic, but still food, I was happy to learn from my (somewhat puzzled) dietitican that I can still eat my favourite sandwich for lunch:

I know it sounds odd, but use a Spanish or sweet onion, and it's very tasty! 😀

Cheers, Al

Onion in a peanut butter sandwich is a new one for me.

After a good day of skiing, this was a nice way to replenish the body.

Nice!

We went Italian tonight, so I grabbed a bottle of '02 Huet Clos du Bourg (vouvray) for the cheese plate and a '95 Arrowood Reserve Special (cabernet sauvignon) for the main course. No pictures because, frankly, we started with a bottle of riesling at my sister's house and didn't even think about taking any by the time we got to the restaurant. 😟🙄

A pair of all star Cabs open at my house tonight:

Anderson's Conn Valley Signature and Shafer's Hillside Select. Gotta get ready for the impending snow storm! Besides, they both paired nicely with the dry aged ribeyes we had for dinner.

Filet with a wine reduction sauce, grilled asparagus and portobello mushroom risotto - not to shabby for a vacation home meal in the mtns.

Just indulged in a square of it with my afternoon coffee...Life is good.
And a bit of dark chocolate is the icing on the cake

Roasted white chocolate that has a squirrel on the label? Oh yeah, that has my name all over it! 😀 "May contain traces of nuts".... well, duh - it was roasted by a squirrel.

....oh, and nice chocolate Speedmaster too. 😉
