Drove about 60 miles round trip to drop off a watch at my watchmaker's home on New Year's Day. We just both had the time to meet then. Normally, he comes to me to pick up and drop off when commutes to his shop in downtown Miami.

That's about my limit. Although if I found something on eBay locally, I'd have no problem picking it up. Think I've done that once or twice.

Took the opportunity of a flight from Paris, France to Launceston, Tasmania, to stop at Melbourne for a visit to Watchco with the clear intention to buy one of their reassembled sm300, but they didn't have any when I visited them. So I didn't buy anything.

400 miles/640 km for a Patek Philippe that must have had a case swap. The reference the seller gave me was for a different watch!

It would have been my first purchase for a watch that cost $3k (late '80's). I was nervous, and kinda glad it didn't happen...

Dish. You can't drop a number like that and not tell the story.

Still doesn't beat Lou, but might be second place.

As a military watch collector, one of the most sought after watches is the Eterna matic Kontiki issued to the Israeli Naval Commando unit S-13. These are hard to come by. Not many survived the harsh use and many civilian examples had markings added to them to increase value. So finding a legit example in good shape is not an easy task. I got an e-mail from a fellow collector that a couple of examples are up for sale in Israel. JFK-TLV = 5,676 (should have probably calculated 11,352 for the round trip). Airfare was cheaper than the watches, assuming you can't use frequent flyer miles to buy watches :p

Won't beat Lou (US to Oz??), but I did fly from Winnipeg to Denver to pick up a couple of nice pieces, and then back through Saskatoon (another business event), then back to Winnipeg via Calgary (yeah, wacky connections...gotta be a Great White North thing...). So a total of 2718 miles (4374 km) to pick up 3 vintage pieces. All in North America!

You're lucky he didn't have to kill you after relating that story.

For the record, I did not go to Oz simply for the watch. I simply picked up the watch while I was there (as I seem to do pretty much wherever I travel - why is that::confused2::). The longest I have ever traveled for a watch is NYC to Munich for the Poker Chip Primero, so I must cede the title to Joe K.

All you have to do is to buy a watch from Perth and fly to get it. The title is yours for the plucking.

10,240 miles. Hobart, Tasmania to Berlin. 1972.
But it shouldn't really count as I picked up the watch when on holiday - didn't make the trip for the watch. A Ruhla diver. East German pin-lever UMF movement. Still looks great and works fine.
