From a marketing perspective,it was wrong to make mission to moon. They should leave it to the OG Speedy.

Most ceramic cases, especially when matte finished, look very plastic. Swatch is very clever here calling this material bioceramic and touting how it is environmentally friendly, which is a must for most younger consumers. I guess Swatch has been using this material for awhile.

I very very much disagree with this. Omega's ceramics look nothing like plastic, even my matte black PO. Its the lighter colors and most definitely cheaper kind of ceramic Swatch used here. The press shots all look better to me just because the colors are "deeper".

Or a tuning fork watch 😵‍💫

Btw, mods... Could we get this thread moved to the "Other Brands" subforum? 😁

Interesting idea, No 😁

There are a few in the middle.
I started in the 'slightly leaning con' camp... quickly moved to the middle, and now am shifting into the 'pro' camp.

1 - convincing arguments from some in the 'pro' camp, that this co-branding from the highest prestige to lowest basic level is beneficial 'because' it highlights the difference and that intro/comparison brings some advantage. How true or real this turns out to be may take a while to see, but it's an interesting take.

2 - extremist/tantrum-like views being espoused by some in the 'con' camp.

My view is, these are just watches. There's no one's lives at stake here, and as much as this might a figurative bomb for some, it's not literal bombs dropping on your head. I know, I know...this is a watch forum and dedicated to first world things, but for me after a couple of years dealing with a pandemic, and the threat of WW3 around the corner, I have a difficult time getting upset because of some plastic watches.
Definitely true from the consumers point of view. I like seeing arguments from the corporations POV, as they are the ones who decided to do it... and I'm always curious what the business rationale is (regardless how inconsequential an item might be to society in the big-picture).

This is a nuanced/limited critique I can empathize with, even if I still feel the resulting outcome of the “error” is merely a rounding error.

So too can I empathize with the nuanced/limited critique of the “Omega” brand being paramount on the dial - but there again still feel that if it’s an error, it’s merely a rounding error.

The bigger threats - the larger possible errors - to the success/execution of the idea I think don’t come until these things are in the hands of hundreds or thousands of both “tourists and purists”

But these are all issues of execution, not concept.

I keep meaning to ask:

can someone as old as Father Time tell us about how purists reacted in 1988 when Omega released the Speedmaster Reduced? 😗

The reduced still irks me to this day with its misaligned pushers and crown. And I've discouraged every friend who tried to buy one 😁😲

If this move was for “fun” Omega could have thrown one of these in with the purchase of a real Omega

This is a move by a massive mega corporation to sell tons of watches by creating a “brand
BTW I just heard from big D the other day.
He is doing fine, still likes watches, still the Mattress King. He is a little surprised at the price jumps of some brands, especially Rolex.
He sends his best to all here.
Oh I forgot to ask him what he thought of the SwatchOmega models.
Can we have a forum fund raiser to send him the Uranus version purely for comic value. It really is a bloody good idea and I for one would contribute. I miss him.

I've said from the start that this is a way for the Swatch group to get a demographic that may not be terribly interested in a highly expensive Speedmaster Pro right now, due to their status in life, on board for a future purchase.

I'm more convinced of this sale seeing the number of people (across many forums where this is being discussed) who have a real love for Swatch watches from their youth, and who have moved onto "serious" watches now.

So too can I empathize with the nuanced/limited critique of the “Omega” brand being paramount on the dial - but there again still feel that if it’s an error, it’s merely a rounding error.

As I said in an early post, that was something I had misgivings about - actually having Omega on the dial. But I think not having it there would have been a bigger mistake.

I'm gonna try something totally different after 37 pages of mostly negative comments and say something positive about the watches themselves.. (not that I had anything bad to say previously)

As a speedmaster fan, one thing I love about speedys is all the new variations that come out with different colors and dial combos. That said, being a cheap alternative that can scratch the itch in terms of bold colors is very much welcomed by me. I buy strictly black dial / stainless watches because I can wear them with anything. If (and thats a big if) I can get my hands on the ones I want (or all of them for the sake of being a collector) it would be very nice to have random colors at my disposal to go with fun tees and sneakers while not breaking the bank. I simply can't go out and spend thousands of dollars on the new Aqua Terra line just to have a gold/copper dial even though I love the look. Deep down I know that watch will hardly be used and I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money to have it sit in a drawer 99.999% of the time.

think about 20 years or so ago, Mercedes and BMW would never have built a small hatchback.

LOL. The Smart car was announced in 1994 and started production in 1997, as collaboration between SMH (Swatch/Hayek!) and Mercedes Benz. One can argue how successful that was, but it definitely didn't do any long-term damage to MB.

I don't think your count is correct, and even less so if one counts posters, rather than the same poster complaining 20 different ways.

sorry, 37 pages of either complaints or people defending complaints.

Trying to throw some positive vibes in the mix

I used to own a pre-production "Brabus" press car (the Brabus engine/gearbox/suspension in a stock convertible Smart FourTwo)... for smiles per mile it couldn't be beat. I think these MoonSwatches might offer the same kind of affordable joy. Man I miss that stupid stupid Smart car.

I can’t take it anymore. I cry myself to sleep and wake up in cold sweats thinking about the Mission to Uranus. My family calls me a failure for my abysmally poor financial investment decisions and they all want their money back. It’s all tied up in this one piece and it’s now a paper weight… someone, anyone, please make me an offer and it’s yours.

🙄 😁

I read somewhere that when Al Gore was inventing the internet, he intentionally delayed it by a few years specifically to avoid online discussions about this release!!
