Would you rather buy a speedy without box and papers but from a seller with a great reputation or a full set from a seller that you have some doubts about?

What would you prefer?

I prefer a Seamaster!馃槤
The box just takes up space in your closet. You only need it to get a higher price when you sell it. Why not give the trusted seller your money, we need trust worthy sellers.

This one is a no brainer - buy the seller... the box and paper mean nothing to me.

Neither. If it's a newer speedy, I'd be concerned why the watch is naked. If it's a vintage, then buy the seller.

I'm always suspicious of a recent watch (< 3 yrs old) that has no box and no papers. There can be reasons for this, but I'd like to know why. Owner died, house burned down, dog ate it, whatever. There is an ST2 Ultraman for sale on C24 with no box, no papers. Why?

For older watches it comes down to condition, price, seller reputation. All three are factors. If you have doubts about the seller just steer clear.

I would prefer the box and papers, obviously. And I'm buying the watch, not the seller so I don't care much about him. I've bought many great watches from sellers with no reputation. Of course, if you think he is a scammer, you definitely don't want to send your money. I don't know what "doubts" means really.

With this thread title, I was really hoping to see "to fight ten duck sized horses, or one horse sized duck"

I'm with everyone else, older piece=doesn't matter, newer piece=makes me wonder what's going on.

We had a member here @abrod520 who sold his A11 50SS without the box because of a break in.

Thanks for your point of views everyone.

i should have added in my original post the naked one is from 2000.
The other seller is not a scammer, it鈥檚 a store that sells quite a lot but communications with them just doesnt feel reassuring, they are also a bit cheaper than comparable offerings in the market

Let me get this straight. There is an established retailer selling the watch you want for less money and with box and papers, but you're asking if you should pay more to buy one without B&P. 馃え

Slow in communication but my main one:

When i inquired about a speedy and asked what year it is i got a response that they did not know when it was sold so they couldn鈥檛 tell me. That鈥檚 not what i asked right? They have the watch and serial so why can鈥檛 they confirm the year it was made but refer to the original date of selling

Maybe because they're not in the business of guessing and would prefer to provide only accurate information. What makes you think they know the production date?

If you want an approximate production date, you can use the approximate serial number charts posted all over the internet.

It鈥檚 going to be my first Omega so forgive me my ignorance but with Omega you can not tell the year of production by the serial? That would be very surprising to me

Omega knows, and maybe people with access to Omega's systems might be able to find out for relatively modern watches. But it's not public information as far as I know, for Omega or any other brand. As I mentioned, there are serial number charts on the internet, but even the official ones are just approximate.

Did you ask to see the original warranty paperwork? If it was filled out completely, it should have the purchase date, but that is obviously not the same as the production/delivery year.

In conversations with some dealers, they've also told me that sometimes people who stop in trade the watch right off their wrist in the moment, and rarely remember to come back with the box and papers. Especially if they're on vacation.

I'd definitely buy the seller. But if you see a Speedy Tuesday with LE # 103, or an Ultraman with LE # 156 and they don't have B&P please contact me

I don鈥檛 know a whole lot about Omega but should this not have been your first question to people? Sounds like you鈥檙e mak卯ng assumptions based on things you simply don鈥檛 know.

In the Longines brand that I follow, the manufacture usually dates the watch using the date the watch was sold to a distributor.
