The year is almost over and I guess it hasn’t exactly been the most delightful 52 weeks we‘ve ever had.

So, let’s recap the watch-year 2021.

Which ones are your favorite new arrivals? Have you found a grail, either new or vintage? What was your surprise-of-the-year purchase? Share as many as you like.

My personal choice:

The daily „beater“
Got it very early this year and it’s been my go-to watch for rain, unknown conditions, or those days were you possibly can’t think about the watch on your wrist.

Personal Patina Perfection
Also an arrival from the beginning of the year, and my love for it just keeps growing. Approaching the watch drawer with a certain piece for the day in mind, I’ve spontaneously picked this one instead very frequently.

The hobnail-trio
A lot of time goes into „the hunt“ - in some periods, without any mentionable results for quite a while. And then, all of a sudden, comes a month in which these three pop up, one after another, on three different platforms, and empty the watch budget for the year, but also give me a lot to drool over. 😀

Curious to see your candidates and merry Christmas everybody.

This very rare pre-carrera 1955 Heuer 3336 S with Valjoux 22. The model is oversized at 37mm, which was unusual for the 1950s chronographs.

This year was pretty good for me. Lot of textured dials 😗

Linen dial Semaster

Minty honeycomb Seamaster

Very uncommon 2887 on the left and 14381, from last year, that I bought from you before we found out that both of us are memebers here 😀

Also uncommon, 2996-1 with pink/salmon textured dial

And grey linen Seamaster 600, which I still don't know how to photograph proprely 🤦

No Omega watch purchases for me in 2021 (or 2020). I decided to jump from Omega to Seiko. In 2021 I picked up these two divers. I'm happy with these two, no complaints, but when it comes to dive watches my go-to is the ploprof which I bought in 2015.

Only one acquisition this year so it’s my de facto favourite! Still in production (late due to development and supply chain issues). It won’t hit until May of 2022, can’t wait. I have 061 of the limited brown dial version.

I only bought one watch in 2021, but it was one I’d been hunting for a couple of years. Managed to find one at a local jeweler for a reasonable price and they took a Seamaster Pro I didn’t wear as trade to bring the price even lower. I finally understand the appeal of Rolex, but I think this will be my only one.

I’ve bought a few this year but these are my 2021 favourites.

I'd always been a Seamaster fan but @wilderbeast is entirely to blame for my foray into C-case Constellations. This is my 168.017 and I have no doubt that at some stage I’ll be looking for a 168.027 with a milled edge bezel.

I never particularly liked Hamilton (especially the Khakis) but had no idea that these slim elegant models existed. I now have two so that counts as a collection in itself!

I'd always liked Ultra-Chron watches and when @JohnSteed offered this one on Private Watch Sales it was a marriage made in heaven.

Hey Matt, great thread.👍.
My grail for a couple of years was a constellation pie pan but I was always concerned about the size, at 34mm, would it be too small?? So I decided to dip my toes in with a non pie pan at a reasonable price and when I saw your sales post for a non pie pan 167.005 I didn't hesitate. Once on the wrist I knew I could live with the 34mm so soon thereafter, again with assistance from your good self I added the lovely pie pan. So two constellations this year😀
The pie pan has become my most worn watch this year, by far, it's back on it's BoR and is just so comfortable to wear and a delight to look at. my attempt at the pocket shot😗

I also purchased a lovely Eterna from @Alpha, he has such lovely condition watches. Although it doesn't get much wrist time due to the Constellation, I do actually have it on today, I do like a simple 3 hander.

So, all in, 3 purchased this year all from OF, a great platform. I have a small legacy due in the new year from my late Father and I am thinking about what to get with that to remember him by, something special but not decided yet whether new or vintage.
so happy holidays to all wherever you are and whatever you are doing. So looking forward to the next year's purchase's😀

Sold my ZEP 1969 original to get his A386 fine watch club edition limited to 24 pieces:

Was late to the party for the Trilogy in 2017 but got this at the OB with help of @Leostaicalmo :

And got a quartz/digital movement after wearing the last one 23 years ago:

I was lucky to pick up a few this year but some highlights:

the one I’d lusted after for a while:
When the FOIS was discontinued I decided to take the plunge - I had been dithering between that and a Speedy Pro and I went with my heart. My first modern Omega:

On the wish list for ages:
I had wanted a nice SS, black-dialled Polerouter for a while and made my first purchase on Instagram with this one:

An automatic chronograph at last:
Calibre 1040 had fascinated me for a while and I have a few manual wind chronographs, so I was pleased to add this Seamaster 176.007 very recently:

I make no apology to @Spruce for edging him towards a gorgeous watch that looks great on his wrist 😉.

Early waterproof case in steel, circa 1938:

Crusty steel-cased US Army Ordnance Corps, OH series, issued 1945:

CH27 chronograph in steel, circa 1950:

This little gem. Took some years to find!

Love threads like these, by the way! They are one of the best, yet feeble, attempts at compensating for the lack of meeting IRL. Thanks, @MtV !

There have been three. To select one would be similar to ask: "Which is your favorite child?" 😉

You choose! 😀

I bought too many watches this year and need to cut back in ‘22.

My two favorites are:
