Is that a Timex LCD? Dunno, but Mr. Mueller appears to be a bit frugal for someone who reportedly was earning over $4M before taking the Special Counsel gig ...

Never trusted anyone who wears a watch the wrong way down on their wrist.
Yes Timex or Casio, probably wearing a $80 suit as well.

Many wealthy people don't go overboard on their lifestyle. I knew the CEO of one of the biggest oil companies around and he was worth a couple of hundred million and he wore an old mid-century American wristwatch. The watch was just a tool to tell the time, he didn't need to impress anybody.

Seems most FBI and similar investigators prefer quartz digital watches. Sad but these are the theoretically the most efficient time keepers and disposable if damaged.
Besides these days if any federal LEO showed up in public wearing an Omega or a Rolex he would find himself the center of an ethics committee probe with his financial records of the last two decades being gone over with a fine tooth comb.

PS One source ID'ed the watch as a 5600 G-Shock.

Wearing a watch wrong side down makes it easier to glance at the time while keeping both hands on a steering wheel.

Looks like he's changed out from the diagnosis of a Casio DW290 a couple of years ago. Regardless, not everyone shares this goofy hobby or the need to blow hard-earned cash on aesthetic gadgets, regardless of their role. Robert Mueller left a well-paying legal career to take on this government job, reportedly at $161K a year, giving up probably $2.5M/year. With that kind of pay cut, I'm guessing he's just as happy to not be wearing a month's salary on his wrist.

I know plenty of people with a few quid who don’t care for wrist watches but wearing it upside down is a crime

Guy I know is a wealthy real estate developer. He buys Invicta watches off the internet. Probably invests more in postage than in the watch. And he wonders why they usually last only about a year, if he’s lucky. I used to help him out, but with the last one, I told him he was on his own.

I am a local Detective on a Federal Task Force and wear an Omega SMPc, and Omega Professional. There are quite a few Bureau guys that have a taste for nice watches. I have seen everything from Omega Seamasters to Rolex GMT's. There are watch guys everywhere.

I know a lot of wealthy people who just aren’t into watches. Of course I don’t get it and secretly think it’s a shame when I see their empty wrists and dream about the watches I’d buy with their bank accounts...!

Perhaps this was meant as a joke, but it's quite common in the military to wear a watch on the inside of ones wrist. As you may know, Mueller was a highly decorated combat Marine in Vietnam.

I disagree, I know a few that wear decent watches. One a gmt master, another wears a polar explorer.

Robert Mueller does not need to impress anyone, with a watch

His intellect and his integrity, will be more than sufficient

    A very fine American…

At work a guy who came to sell us a new pay deal that wasn’t the best was admittedly wearing a fake Breitling.

    Out having a cigarette.
Me “ls that a Breitling, like watches do you? “
Him “It is a fake Breitling I bought for $65 on holidays in Malaysia ”
Me “so looks like we will never be able to afford a real one with the new pay deal your trying to sell us”
Conversation seemed to end after that :D

Wearing watch on the inside of his wrist... must have been in the Navy....

    Google search....

He was a Marine... close enough in my mind.

So... like Jimmy Carter I’m going to call it “allowed.”

Note Carter was a submariner which is where that habit comes from.

I'm going to try this...but I glance down to admire the dial, often never even looking at the time.

Maybe they're rich because they use their money on something reasonable - which brings solid returns -- as opposed to the occasional flipping.
Unless you're dealing in hundreds of thousands, flipping watches is quite speculative and quite a lot of work for the amount of money it brings in.
Also if you're not a watch expert yourself, in this day of pervasive corruption in the watch world you might well be cheated even by the advisers you pay.
