I open this thread because recently my new Aquaterra got pool time and for some stupid reason it got condensation, so it got me thinking, what should I take to the beach next time?. I want to use my watches as much as possible, they were bought with that in mind, but now I realize that mechanical watches are not designed to be beaten so much, maybe I can bring one mechanical and another for swimming in the sea and some physical play at the beach. Before I used a Tissot touch for all my vacations, it is sturdy, the dial glass does not scratch, looks nice to me, it is not so common, seems "a good watch" ( I don't like anymore wearing a date-time only plastic Casio WR 30M), and has some interesting sensors, but it kind of bored me to have all my vacations photos with the same watch! So, I ask, what do you wear for beach vacations?, oh, and photos please Sent via Tapatalk
How old is your aqua terra? Has it had service/gaskets replaced recently? On the beach, one of the two of my regular rotation watches, whichever I happen to wear at the time, comes along-the omega sm300 or the rolex dj.
I'm at a point now wear I think I might be best served taking the Seiko. I took my Blancpain Fifty Fathoms (since sold) and ended up taking it off when going in the water. So why bother? Most often I would take the plant ocean (sold it as well), but last time I returned I actually had to use tin snips to cut off the spring bars due salt corrosion.
If you go to the water, esp salt water/sea/ocean, with your watch, change your spring bars early and often! I'm no expert by far, but that little I know!
It is 4 weeks old... I got into the pool this week while on Cancun with the crown not totally tight I guess, now I am waiting to return to my city to take it to my AD to have it repaired. So sad... Sent via Tapatalk
Your AD should be able to pressure test it for you to see if the leak could have come from something besides a non-screwed down crown. For the pool, you shouldn't necessarily need the crown screwed down tight, just closed. I do try to always remember to screw down the crown after setting anymore, because I can't count on myself to double check before going into water. If you don't trust yourself, then maybe you shouldn't take a nice diver to the beach with you... ...and BTW, an Omega diver is certainly more trustworthy than a beater watch against water leakage when worn properly (i.e., crown closed). I'm sorry that happened though... hopefully your AD will give you good news...
On my last 2 beach vacations I took the Sinn UX for beach/ water duty. Supplemented with a Speedy or two on the last trip. The Sinn was fine for swimming in both the gulf/ ocean and swimming pools.
I wear a Seiko SKX009 at the beach or around any water. Perfect beater for any situation and under $200.
Wore this to the beach today here on beautiful Cape Cod Spectacular day today -80's and a clear blue sky But everyday is fabulous on the cape
I like this one... 42mm, 13mm think. 30 ATM, auto. that's why lotta boxes checked. ...and it isn't ceramic...
If I had a modern Rolex or Omega I would have no problem wearing it in the water. Hell, I wore my 1968 1675 at the beach/pool/fishing two weeks in a row. No more vtg for water or travel now that I picked up this Seiko.
It's a Seiko copy of the Rolex President bracelet. The watch came with a Seiko Jubilee, and a forum member tipped me off to the President since it's thickness went better with the watch and it feels more solid.
Thank you very much! I've been looking for an alternative to the standard jubilee bracelet. Do you have the bracelet number or is it just called Seiko President? An eBay purchase?
