The Speedmaster was never an "independent" Omega creation?

I have never thought that. I just wanted to know what was the last speedmaster in production (which model) in the final last days of Omega as a sole operator company (before being purchased and rolled up into a conglomerate of brands). Why is this a silly question? thanks

Generally, none of them, Omega, along with Tissot and Lemania became SSIH in the 1930's, predating the Speedmaster name by about 27(ish) years.

SSIH and ASUSG, another Swiss manufacturer, joined in 1983 to become SMH, now Swatch.

I'm not writing all the full names for SSIH, ASUSG or SMH here though!

What means "sole operator company" and "produced" exactly? because for my 105.003-63 for example:
- movement = lemania, I was told that the early speedys were assembled by lemania hence some difficulty with tracking serials
- case = HF if I remember well, there were various other companies producing cases
- dial = Singer

The answer to your question may be, none.

As in any industry, lots of subcontracting... and in the Swiss watch industry, for a very long time.

Ah ok. I didn't know that... I knew they used subcontractors etc.. but I always assumed Omega was an individual company at the time of the launch of the early premoon and moon speedies... Well there you go! "brand Omega"...Just goes to show the power of their marketing! Thanks for the replies!

Swatch did not buy the Group that owned Omega until the late 80’s or so. Check Wikipedia.
