As you guys know I was offered a job a few weeks ago and sadly it didn't work out I decided to find a nice speedmaster to celebrate and this one landed in my lap over a week ago it arrived yesterday 145.022 78 One owner watch purchased in 1981 worn for several years then left in a drawer as it stopped working Never been serviced in its life My dilema is do I sell or do I sell the SM300 165.024 the (5513 I love and want to keep) I'd love to keep them all but want to keep a eye on money as I don't claim anything from the govement
No that's a a big three watch collection , unfortunately your dilemma is equally big. If you have to sell something then I guess I would opt out to sell the 165.024. However at a quick glance it looks to be in honest condition with the dial and lume in beautiful condition and afaik pretty hard to find like that. They are a bit slower to liquidate imo also. The Rolex would be much easier to liquidate and later perhaps replace but I see you have a strong emotional bond to the 5513.
I'd keep the 300, and sell the Speedmaster. A 145.022 '78 is neither particularly special nor particularly difficult to come by.
Obviously, the 5513 is going to bring you more money, but you have attachment. That leaves the 2 Omegas. One way to look at it is from the perspective of experience - you have spent time with the 300, you know how it feels to own it. The Speedmaster, on the other hand, is new to you. You have not experienced what it feels like to own that particular watch, you have not formed your own opinion or written your own narrative with it yet. I would move the 300 on & spend time with the Speedy, see if you connect. Alternatively, you could see this as a situation in which seeing as the Speedy is new, you haven't formed a bond yet, so it might be easier to release it in the hope of catching it again in the future... I guess it comes down to just how much you like that 300.
You've already answered your own question... don't think you need ours. Sell the Speedmaster you bought to celebrate your new job... it will only remind you that it didn't work out. You love the 5513... so keep it. If your financial situation worsens, then sell the Rolex, it will bring, as others have mentioned, the most money.
I would sell the 5513, never been a fan of the gold circled plots, you could always find a better older one... But if you decide to sell the 165.024, I might be interested!
I would sell the Speedy. If you love your Rolex, keep it. The Seamaster is really nice and it's more complicated to find one like this than a -78. Cheers
Thanks for reply’s guys I’m not quite destitute yet I’ve had quite a few offers to buy the 165.024 to mull over
Sell the Speedmaster. All it will evoke are bad memories of current times. Besides the SM300 is a much rarer bird
Keep the Rolex and one of the Omegas. Since the Rolex is a diver and so is the Seamaster...Id keep the Speedmaster. The Speedy needs a good clean and a new glass and it ll look like a million bucks.
Reading this it's obvious you are a standup guy, so no matter what watch or watches you have to move to get through this slump you are going to come out on top and eventually be able to swing more watches.
Great...now it's even easier to sell But that's you. However everyone's situation is different and with the pandemic plus family, bills, Xmas, winter, well you get the idea.
